My daughter has had those before. We find them on the brick walls of our house all the time.

It's a defense mechanism....distracts predators from the more sensitive parts of the body.....the predator will go after the tail, and the skink will lose the tail and get away....or so I've read

The first time she tried to catch one the tail came off in her hand...she was mortified!
