This is the best news I've heard on here in a while!

Congradulations Rose, I'm glad the tests proved nothing serious. Thank you for representing!!!

It might be a good thing to direct them to the survey. There are currently over 4000 signatures and testimonials (Including mine) for them to ponder over.

They have starting researching it and they visited this forum! (Hi!) They told me they would love for it to have FDA approval and are looking into it. In the interim, they fully support my using the e-cigs to cut down on cigarettes and would like to follow my progress.
So, TBob, do you think these doctors from Sloan Kettering are "unethical" too?

    And Red, great post!

Thanks everyone. It seems they've been testing liquid nicotine for a long time, and have already tested nicotine in an e-cig. They won't take or test samples they don't get themselves, and they know exactly what is in the liquid. I had told them where it came from earlier. When asked what I smoked and how many per day, they told me in 3 seconds what strength liquid and how many mls I would have to vape in a day to equal what I smoked in a day. They had the output, and absorption ratio down, and wanted to make sure I was using that amount. They also asked what I had on hand in terms of liquid and equipment to make sure I didn't smoke solely because I was lacking supplies. They don't fool around, lol.
Their interest is multifaceted. They want to know which analogs are most difficult for me to give up, as they are studying the addiction as well as the effectiveness of the e-cig. They have a lot of departments!
They cannot recommend e-cigs without FDA clearance or FDA withdrawal from the matter. I know through a different source that there are doctors and other hospital personnel using e-cigs now. I have shared my personal opinion on vendors, good and bad.

As I told Lacy, I think it's very important for us as a community to pressure lawmakers, make our doctors aware of the importance of e-cigs, and spread the word in general. I also told her I didn't think that she should contact Memorial Sloan Kettering as a representative of ECA when she asked for a contact. If ECA chooses to be a trade group of suppliers, (with some input but no vote from consumers) then I believe they should stay away from the areas where salespeople are not welcome, where their opinions are unsolicited and looked upon negatively as trying to influence an objective overview for their own monetary gain. Please understand, I do not know if that is what they are doing, but it is the perception unbiased entities will have. Memorial Sloan Kettering doesn't need anything other than the knowledge that this is working for people. Emailing them as users thru their website would be a great thing to do. As far as I know they have not made any public statements that they are supporting e-cigs, so personal testimony would be good. They will handle the rest. And ultimately, a whisper from them is a million times louder than all the noise made on "the Hill." Look up the people who have been treated there. The most recent notable would be Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

I'll keep you all posted. As for me, my journey with them has been one of the most incredible events of my life. They are the most caring, warm, selfless group of people I have ever had the privilege know. From the people who meet you at the entrance, to the directors of the departments. I am a very fortunate and thankful person, and continue to be amazed by the people who call me from there when they've read a report of a visit, to ask me if I would consider coming in to see or talk to someone in a department that has an interest in something they read in my report, that seemingly had nothing to do with that department. That's why they are the best at what they do.

A little background first. Last year, by a seemingly cosmic coming together of extraordinary circumstances, a primary lymphoma was found where it shouldn’t have been by an amazing radiologist. Living close enough to New York City, I called Memorial Sloan Kettering. They treated me, and believed I was cured, just had to have yearly scans.
This year’s scan showed an enlargement at the base of my tongue, and after a head neck specialist determined it was nothing serious, he began the discussion of the importance of stopping smoking. I took out my e-cig, explained it to him and he got so excited! He asked lots of questions, told me he would suggest it to the doctors that smoked and asked if I would speak to the Smoking Cessation department about it. Of course I agreed.
I got a call from them today. They have starting researching it and they visited this forum! (Hi!) They told me they would love for it to have FDA approval and are looking into it. In the interim, they fully support my using the e-cigs to cut down on cigarettes and would like to follow my progress. They would like to see this become an approved method of smoking cessation and would like to monitor me, first to see if I will stop smoking analogs, then a slow, gradual decrease of nicotine strengths, and then later to see if I would be willing to set a "stop vaping" date. I am very excited and encouraged by their interest. They are a “powerhouse” and trust me, when they speak; those who we need hear us, listen. So keep up the good fight by all means suggested, and know there are powerful forces with us!
For anyone unfamiliar with Memorial Sloan Kettering, look here
    Sloan-Kettering - About Us

ETA: Surprisingly, they were most concerned that I was getting enough nicotine with the liquid because the main reason nicotine replacement methods fail is because people do not get enough nicotine in standard replacement therapy to be effective!!
First off, I am glad that you are ok. That is great to hear. Sloan Kettering is huge, and I would participate in any research/study if they are loooking for volunteers(I'm in Pa). I recently lost both of my parents to cancer and found these just in time(I hope. You made my day with this story. Thanks for sharing.

Good news Redrose and thanks for sharing. I'm very happy to hear that Sloan-Kettering is approaching this with a relatively open mind. I say "relatively" because they appear excited only about the e-cig as a smoke cessation device.

Certainly it can be that for many people but I am sorry that neither they nor any other body reported in this forum is also looking upon this device as an important Nicotine Maintenance Treatment similar in respect to methadone maintenance.

E-cigs should be first approached as "a corrective but not a curative treatment" for nicotine addiction.

    Awesome read and great news!

Being Canadian, I'm not really familiar with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I don't blame them for not releasing their findings until the right time, but hopefully they ran the vapour through a mass spec, because if they have found any harmful elements they would have advised you to stop these all together!

Appreciate the further notes on your experiences with Sloan Kettering, RedRose. This is truly important news to this community. Keep us posted and I wish you the best.

Yvilla: You are nothing if not persistant. No, I not think Sloan Kettering unethical preciously because of this fact from RedRose:

They cannot recommend e-cigs without FDA clearance or FDA withdrawal from the matter.
And that is exactly what I said in a thread that triggered your flip attitude.

No Bob, my attitude is not flip, not in the slightest. I very seriously disagree when you say that "no ethical doctor is going to endorse" ecig use.

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...tml#post195161

Of course the Sloan Kettering doctors couldn't recommend that Red start using an ecig - but that is a legal issue given the current situation. But as you saw from her post, they certainly are endorsing and supporting her use.

I beg to differ - this thread is about the "Great News" of a powerhouse in the US medical community endorsing her use of ecigs!
