Hi Jim
This is very encouraging:
Although the biz guy, Mr Kumar, is more bullish "We are getting this from Hong Kong and this particular product is used to quit smoking using nicotine replacement therapy." the IMA member Dr Aruldas is also pretty blunt "patient can reduce himself from smoking level to non-smoking level by using this device". This is controversial and will be hotly-contested. But at least you're not alone any more, doc!
We badly need more medical experts in our corner, and it will be hugely important if we can get some hard clinical data from a non-industry funded study (although I must say Dr Laugesen is clearly his own man).
I'd be interested to know if the FDA referred to is the US body or an Indian one with the same acronym. I know the (US) FDA is taking a lot of interest in Indian and Chinese imports at the moment because of the upsurge in cheap online drugs (you know the ones - more joy in your stick for just $5). I've seen claims that the US FDA have certified our devices but I haven't had it confirmed by a source I trust.

Please, please prove my fear wrong on this .. I want to be wrong .. but I don't see anywhere in this article that India has approved e-smoking. I think this is a press release reprinted many times in many publications.
I do see one doctor quoted, but where is the statement from a national association of doctors? Where is a statement from a government health official? What I read here shows an appalling lack of research, something increasingly common as failing newspapers shed staff and rely on publicity handouts for "news".
Njoy and Crown 7 in the States flood the press with publicity releases, hoping desperate publications will publish them. And some pathetic news products do just that, word-for-word. That's not news. That's advertising, but the difference escapes many less-than-savvy readers.
Tell me this is really an article saying India is welcoming e-smoking. That's what I want to read.
