Sad that Doctors Can't Offer PV's as an Option

Was showing my 510 to a clerk I know in a store yesterday and he was impressed. Especially with the vapor aspect....

He knows a lady that was prescribed some kind of Nic control RX that looks like a cigar end, delivers nic but no vapor, tastes like dung. The lady has Lupus and has to quit smoking...

When she went to get refills for her RX it was $70. She didn't get it filled.

I told him to check out youtube, the forum, what model to get for a starter (510) and for $70 she could get a kit, juice and free delivery (widow's) and it won't taste like cow dung, have to pay $70 a pop for refills, etc

Personally, I stay away from doctors until I absolutely have no choice, but many ppl rely on everything they say as an only option for them. That's why I'll vape most anywhere/anytime, to answer the questions that come up from curious onlookers.

I tried to quit with those too, but they tasted like crap and I missed the smoke. I bought my first e-cig yesterday. It's charging now, so I'll see how it works.

As for the Docs, they usually will not recommend anything that's not FDA approved, and from what I've seen on this site...the FDA is no friend of the E-cig.

I am a medical student and after a particular brutal exam I was happily vaping my EVO in the common area outside the testing center. I ended up giving a long explanation and answering a lot of questions from my feloow classmates. ALL of tehm thought it was a great device. Several of them wanted info so they could get one for parents adn siblings who needed to quit.

From what I have seen the next generation of physicians are far more technologically savy and thus less intemidated by new technology. As well as more open minded to all kinds of alternative thinking, wether it is an e-cig or some homeopatic remedy.

I think you will see more physicians willing to do their own investigating and research and willing to make up there own minds.

I am making it my personal mission to inform physicians and futire physicians anout this device. Particularly the Ecopure line of fluid as it lists ingrediants and is not made in china, I even sent my pulmonolgy professor a link to the forum!

good for you sleephater. I had a family doctor recommend weed one time and I was forever grateful at his openmindedness. He was the kind of doctor where the doctor and patient would collaborate on the patients medical care. I miss him, since we've moved across the country.

That's why I titled my post sad that doc's can't offer PV's. I don't look at the FDA as the boogeyman trying to be a killjoy, but rather an long tedious beaurocracy that would take years to approve, where patients can be helped now.

By the same token, I'm not into the hype that inhaling anything in my lungs is totally safe, to justify my habit. I do believe vaping is far less harmful than analogs though.

I'm hoping the FDA doesn't ban e-cigs. I don't see how they have the authority to do that when it's not an illicit drug, and people can make up their own minds. If they ban without testing, and have no intention of testing, then I'll believe it's the tobacco companies in their pocket as some believe.

I'd just love to see ppl that want to quit analogs have that option available to them. Right now that falls on us vapers to spread the word.

I know a doctor that refers me 2 to 3 people a month..He hasnt wrote a script for Chantix or any other ces devices since I showed him my ecig 4 or 5 months ago...He is a really down to earth guy...He is also a highly respected Doctor in my area..

smokes are still on the market & they have BEEN proven to kill you & others around you. Yes I feel it may be the money factor for that fact alone. i tried & still have the nicotrol inhaler& found it was good but when around smokers always asked for one i missed the smoke & warmth of the drag. going to start reducing the nic in my juice now so if it is banned i will not have to resort to analogs for the nicjust work on the vape I am going to show my doctor & see if he can do some research with me

that's so great that your doctor refers ppl to you! I had surgery inside my nose last month and have a followup with an ENT soon. I didn't mention the e-cig, because I actually had to have skin grafts, etc for the surgery and I knew he wouldn't approve. I actually went off the PV for about 5 days until I was sure the grafts wouldn't slide out. My nose tends to run from vaping.

ironlung - that is the best thing for me about vaping. I can be around smokers and it doesn't bother me a bit, I don't need an analog, b/c I'm good to go with my e-cig. I didn't want to become one of those bitchy ex-smokers on a pedestal, telling other ppl what they should do lol. My husband smokes and it doesn't bother me either.

Partying a bit with friends and neighbors is about the only time I'll want an analog. Something about a buzz and an analog lol.

I've noticed when I smoke an analog now, I barely inhale it, where I used to suck them down to my toes when I'd take a drag. That puts my mind at ease that vaping isn't going as deep as I think it is into my lungs. I'm getting the throat hit and I'm good to go.

I have a vocal cord polyp that gave me hell for almost a year and as soon as I cut down to a few analogs a day and vape, the constant swelling has gone down and I don't even notice it. My voice doesn't go down in the cellar any more from the polyp either

Doctors can and do offer vaping as an option. The FDA does not dictate what a doctor can recommend. The lack of scientific evidence concerning the efficacy of the use of these devices for smoking cessation leads the FDA to take a stand against this recommendation for smoking cessation, but fortunately physicians can choose to recommend whatever they believe is best for their patients. What is sad is that the FDA has any power to make the supplies necessary for vaping difficult to obtain.

I dont really care for the FDA, I believe many companies, especially the big pharma have the FDA in their pockets. And a lot of what they do is in self-interest. That being said.


e-cigs are new, and they are a drug delivery device. so even if the FDA had our best interests in mind and wanted us to use e-cigs, they still would have to do tests on them and have them regulated. Theres no real way they can say do this to help you quit smoking while there are so many unknowns. I mean how could any food and drug adminstration work that way? So even in the best case scenerio we would be in a pickle really. So what do we really expect? Do we want the FDA to examine these products and do studies etc, Or turn a blind eye and let us e-smoke?
