I'm not in a position to believe every reported test result, as the cigarette companies had already lied to us about their test results. Dr Laugesen? I would like to know who this person is.

I do know well the ideas behind temperature/heat, though I've forgotten much I did start college with the intent of majoring in Chemistry. That got screwed up when I started smoking pot and dropped out. Happy to say I'm no longer using this drug.

I dont' know what this acrolyn smells like but I have smelled something like the smell of hot dogs come from my atomizer and I do use vegetable glycerine. It was a pretty gross smell, reminiscent of bile. I guess no one else has had this experience? Well, I'm still of the opinion that it could be inhaled in small quantaties and go virtually unnoticed and still cause problems down the road. But I suppose I'm sure they'll come out with a better alternative to PG down the road anyhow.

Heck, maybe I'll quit altogether if this film in the back of mythroat doesn't stop. I wanted to quit cigarettes so I could sing again. Can't do that when I sound like I'm talking into a golf ball.

This is the research report Dr Laugesen produced for Ruyan - http://www.healthnz.co.nz/RuyanCartr...t30-Oct-08.pdf

Acrolein is the toxin that can be produced with glycerine at around 280 degrees C.

You pays your money, you takes your chance.

To be sure, and be safe,

Glycerol forms acrolein when heated to 280C [sustained, according to someone]

Nichrome doesn't turn red until reaching 760C

Acrolein smells like burnt grease; much like the burnt hot dog smell I discovered last night

Acrolein has been disputed as being carcinogenic and questioned, but there is research revealing it can mutate the DNA in a cell and prevent that cell from recovering

Cancers take time to progress, and necessarily always marked by immediate discomfort

It is possible that this decomposition could pose a more accelerated threat than cigarettes; it is unknown

Questions still about the temperature the glycerin itself reaches, particularly if dripped onto the atomizer (which I feel safer doing than the risk of inhaling fumes from a superheated or burnt filter)

**note that acrolein can be formed in liquid or vapor form--again, no ideas about the temperature the glycerin reaches.. though I myself prefer the safe side and assume that 280C vs 760C is a lot of room for such a conversion to take place, though I am no scientist

I have a friend who's big on physics (majoring in college), and another who's coming to town who has taken the high"est" levels of chemistry, physics, and calculus (in college, not High School) who may have some good insight. Of course, the only way to know for sure is to research scientifically and duplicate the results.

Maybe someone can convince me to keep my cig

Nobody should be trying to convince you of anything. You do your research, share information and make your decision based on the known risks (educated guess).

If you're worried about glycerine maybe you should consider propylene glycol based eliquid.

Do you know what was the verdict on PEG? I've read both good and bad about it and was wondering if there's a consensus or even (*gasp*) some test results.

You don't think we're worthy of real live proper clinical trials and research do you ... we're only addicts fit to take money from.

I've not come across any professional studies on inhaling PEG.

No surprises there are no studies, right now we're all informal test subjects. Oh well, with the FDA sniffing around that will probably change soon.

So... can somebody tell me where I can get some VG in 36mg? Johnson's creek only has 24mg. (Thanks Sun) I may have to settle for the lower nicotine.
