    Default Allergy?

I’ve never had any allergies before.

I’ve been smoking for more than 35 years, about a pack a day. Don’t tell anyone, but I haven’t seen any real side effects, except for those rare occasions when go into a heavy binge -- stay up all night, not enough liquids… Then I pay for it with a serious cough and stuff, but that goes away within a day or so.

I started using a “SmokeStik” about a month ago. (see thread at e-cigarette-forum.com (slash) forum/new-members-forum/26105-what-am-i-doing-wrong (dot) html)
It hasn’t been going well, and I’m still using almost a half-pack of real smokes a day. I’ve been keeping them far away, so I need to run up and down two flights of stairs to get one.

I started getting a little itchy a couple of days ago. I shrugged it off – maybe it was the heat or something. Then last night (Sunday) it got crazy itchy, with welts all over my arms, legs, torso…

I’ve never used Benadryl before, but we had some children’s liquid left over from something or other. I took that at around 2:30 AM. That kicked in eventually and I was asleep within a half-hour. Now (Monday, noon) there’s nothing left but the self-inflicted scratches (I drew blood in a couple of spots).

I can’t think of anything else to blame it on.

How likely is it that I would develop an allergy to nicotine this late in life?

If you started using your ecig a month ago I would think the allergy symptoms would have started then and not been a delayed reaction.... could be something else.. you might wanna do more research on anything that may have changed in your life... soaps, laundry stuff, anything... good luck

Your probably having an allergic reaction of PG build up in your system..not nicotine.. this has happened to many others on this site ..I got very itchy skin/red eyes.

try switching to VG juice or PEG juice..

    Thanks, all.

PG, VG, PEG... I had to look it up.
In the sticky thread about abbreviations, the OP says they're different.
Then a poster says they're the same.

    But the OP didn't update.
    Now you say they're different.

If there's a difference, how do you know what you're getting?

I understand Propylene Glycol can build up lactic acid, which can cause problems but never heard of anyone with those symptoms, before. Any intolerance to PG usually starts with the most-exposed tissues, mouth, nose, throat, with coughing or sore throat.
Maybe a quick trip to an allergist would be in order. May be a reaction to weeds, insects, or some kind of bug spray, etc., changes in laundry soaps, etc., as Tori stated.
Lactic acid build-up would be more on the order of internal problems, heart burn, digestive problems, achey muscles, heart palpitations, etc., but this is something else IMHO.

PG and PEG about the same, the glycols, generally a person who develops sensitivity to these get sore throats, dry burning throat, coughs, etc.
VG= vegetable glycerin, much more easily tolerated, not so drying to tissues. I have to use VG, PG makes me feel like I'm strangling, very sore throat and hoarse, dry cough.
When people say "same thing", they're not, but they do vaporize pretty much the same vapor volume. I would pretty much be assured it is not an allergy to nicotine, with your history.

I wonder if maybe you got exposed to something else without realizing it. If nothing has changed then I would suspect the PG.
I don't see it being nicotine.

And the list of qualifiers grows.

Ok, so what kind/brand of juice has vegetable glycerin
with more throat hit than the "marlboro" flavor and
low nicotine? And where would I get it?

I specifically remember another member here complaining of hives from pg..I think it was Spikey?

Anyways, try juicyliquid or eliquidplanet for VG or Nuvape for PEG
