I've been looking at the same article all day all over the web and TV.
This thing spread like a wild fire. The FDA just played the media card, right from the play book didn't they?.
They hit every major media outlets all at once, thats huge..
Shortly after all the smaller outlets copied and pasted, then blogs, and more..

The only place I could find to comment on the CNN story was here: FDA and health experts warn against use of e-cigarettes | Mass Media News
(cnn page had a link to there)

We need to be sure to write rebuttals in every place we can find

They admit they don't know anything about them, but they warn against them, how enlightening.

I followed the links and watched the video that CNN's Dr. Sonjah Gupta did. It wasn't too bad.

I would love to see the BBC do something on this...they tend to be more honest and out of the Feds grasp...

The only example they listed was diethylene glycol - search for it in wikipedia, then read the article regarding poisonings attributed to diethylene glycol.

Stuff sounds pretty nasty - if diethylene glycol was rampant in nic juices, I would expect a lot of us dead by now.

well since I can't post links yet, I'll post tidbits of stuff I found in my city newspaper (st louis)
I love how the FDA instantly trashes anything they don't have a regulation or control over.

Federal health officials said Wednesday they have found cancer-causing ingredients in electronic cigarettes, despite manufacturers' claims the products are safer than tobacco cigarettes.

The Food and Drug Administration said testing of products from two leading electronic cigarette makers turned up several toxic chemicals, including a key ingredient in antifreeze.

"Little is known about these products, including how much nicotine is there and what other chemicals may be there," said FDA's Deputy Commissioner Dr. Joshua Sharfstein.

FDA scientists said they tested 19 varieties of cigarettes, half of which contained forms of nitrosamine, a carcinogen known to cause cancer in humans. Many products which claimed to contain no nicotine actually had low levels of the stimulant.

thats about the gist of it. I'm just tryin to add to the conversation is all.

im fed up with reading the same stuff. its all just propoganda. the FDA does not care about the health risks. if they did then real cigarettes would be banned. they care about putting up a front to make america think they care about you, but they dont. americans would be happy that the fda is "concerned" that this product is marketed to kids, and keeping their kids safe. but isnt that the parents' job? what has this country come to letting the safety of our kids lie in the hands of the government? but half of america believes everything they say on the news, so theres little chance in convincing people otherwise until more or better information is released

I'm getting mixed reactions from co-workers to these various articles based on these initial FDA findings. Aren't there lots of different foods we buy that would fail the same tests? Especially fish, 1 or 2 carcinogens here and there.

One of my co-workers told me his wife completely stopped vaping because "They found that you're something like 100 times as likely to get cancer from e-cigarettes than from analogs". An obvious overreaction. But that's the problem...people are going to overreact to this.

And apparently drinking alcohol also causes cancer: Alcohol and Cancer: What is the link between alcohol and cancer risk? and I have no qualms to drinking when I fell like it. It would be nice to put things into perspective.
