The 510 is a beast for vapor, but I believe I need to tone it down a little.

I posted this on another thread but felt it was relevant to this thread too so I just copied and pasted to save me a lot of typing as my fingers are swollen from a combination of rainy weather and inflammation from lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's disease.

Here's what I posted about my doctor's appt today:

I had my check up today for lupus and Sjogren's disease. My appts run every 30 days because the medications I take, well some of them anyhow, are only available after an appt with my doctor. He can't write the script unless I am physically in his office for an appt.

You have to remember I have been a heavy to moderate to light to moderate to heavy smoker and even heavy-heavy smoker for more than 25 years. I began smoking when I was about 12 to 13 years old.

I began using the E-cig on July 7th, 09, and up until 14-some days ago, I was still smoking 1 to 3 a day depending upon how well the day went and how stressed I became; however, these last 2 weeks or more, I have ONLY used the E-CIGs without ANY use of the analog aka tobacco leaf-filled cigarettes.

Upon examination, my doctor was blown away! This was the first time I had ever been in his office where I didn't have any wheezing, crackles, or franks. He couldn't believe it. I showed him my Janty E-cigs and gave him the various reports where doctors and that group from Auckland University who did the study on e-cigarettes as compared to regular cigarettes and how they find them not dangerous and containing no cancer-causing ingredients nor any of the carcinogens such as the regular tobacco cigarettes contain.

My doctor, who has been on me for years now since he bought the practice from my former doctor when he retired, has been at me to quit smoking nearly at every visit because of the damage the cigarettes were doing to my lungs. Now he wants me to let everyone I know become aware of the E-cigarettes because if I am any indication as to the outcome of using E-cigs versus tobacco analog cigs then he would much prefer his patients using the E-cigs like I am using them. The proof is quite literally in the stethoscope pudding, if you will.

No crackles, no wheezes, no franks, no nothing. My chest was clear as a bell as was my sinuses for a change. He even went so far as to say that he wouldn't have a problem if I continued to smoke the E-cigarettes as long as I stayed on the type I am smoking with regards to liquids that do not contain the tobacco-analog-cig carcinogens, which as we all know are not present in the e-liquid we buy or the pre-filled cartridges.

BTW, I did tell him about the nitrosamines or whatever that was they found in almost undetectable amounts and before I could explain the high dosage of it in tobacco cigarettes and the gum, patch, and Niq inhaler as well as foods we eat, he beat me to it.

So, the FDA can take a flying leap. My doctor is the most satisfied with my health with regards to my breathing and my lungs than he has been since I first had him for a doc visit after the retirement of my former doctor about 3-4+ years ago.

It was so funny that he asked me to please spread the word among the smokers in this county and try to have them to change to e-cigs as well as any other smoker I run across.

lol... When I saw the study that was conducted in Cape Town by local doctors and universities, I said the same thing to my wife. For once we kicking the US around a little ( I mean that in a nice way ).

We got everyone from corner cafes to pharmacies selling these things now. I still buy from local online shops though as the prices are way better than any shop.

BTW... 24 hours from now and have hit 2 weeks. Absolutely no desire for an analog. Some of my mates smoke and when around them, have no desire for tobacco. So happy man.

    Congratulations!

The first 1 to 2 weeks or so I was still craving an analog cigarette so I was still smoking 1 to 3 each day until finally after I bought a bottle of 36mg e-liquid, I was able to curb the cravings by adding the stronger nicotine liquid in order to stop the cravings.

Best of luck, for both of us - for all of us!

I'm really glad you've made it so long without an analog. If you are like I was at that point, you should be just beginning to feel great, have the ability to take a full deep breath, and overall simply feel better than you have in ages (depending on how long you have been a smoker. Personally, I began when I was about 12 to 13 years old. I'm knocking on the backdoor of 40 now)

    Congrats again...

    Smile I ran!!!

Could not truthfully answer the poll til now..... Being ex-military, running used to be a part of my life... hadn't been able to run in forever. Not that I hadn't tried... of course it resulted in coughing wheezing and the like. However I can finally RUN!!! I was so happy that I sent the following to the ALA and President Obama:
    ************************************************** ****
I came to your site to find out more about changes to my body after quitting smoking. The funny thing is I quit smoking using the ecig 6 weeks ago. As a matter of fact I quit smoking 2 packs per day of Newport 100s one of the most addictive cigarettes on the market after 28 years.

Today, for the first time since my days in the military I successfully ran a mile. That may not seem like much but after two packs of cigarettes a day, it was difficult to descend and climb the stairs to take out the trash bi-weekly. For the first time in 28 years, I finally felt what my lungs and heart should feel like exchanging air as needed without gasping for breath, coughing, doubling over. See this is not the first time I have tried to step up my exercise, all other attempts failed due to my smoking habit. Six weeks ago, I began just by walking the walking path on the river in front of my house, slowly my endurance came back, slowly my shortness of breath dissapated... today I RAN it!!! Today my lungs worked! The ecigarette has been my personal miracle.

Why am I telling you this? Because without the ecigarette, none of it would have been possible. Today I do not use it nearly as much as I did when I first started. I have also reduced the amount of nicotine in the liquids I use. I feel I will probably be completely free of it within the next month or two. My fear? That this wonderful device will not be around should I have a weak moment and revert to smoking. Not that I plan on it, but if the ecig is not allowed what other avenue is there? We all know that the recidivism rate of cigarette smoking is higher than heroine so to say it is not possible is to put our heads in the sand.

Please, rethink the position of the ALA. EVERYTHING in the FDAs report pointed to these devices being magnitudes safer than tobacco cigarettes which we know kills one person every 6 secs. The ALA cannot have it both ways. There are many other testimonies out there just like mine for proof of what these devices actually do.

    Respectfully

After smoking a pack a day of marlboro lights for 14 years I can honestly say that I can smell and breath again. After a week I have not had a desire to smoke a cig. These things are saving lives. I've been hacking up some pretty nasty stuff in the mornings.

And right back to you Big congrats.

Yesterday was 3 weeks. And you're right. Feeling great. Only just recently started noticing how much more air I can take in. Like my lungs have grown
It has also been years (many) since I could sleep on my stomach as the pressure on my chest was too much and found it hard to breath. That gone now. Like it was before.

I started smoking at 14 and also knocking on the back door of 40 (just turned 38 the day after I quite analogs).

After smoking 1-2 packs/day for 42 years, tomorrow morning will be one week analog free, and the miracle is that I have had NO desire for one since finding PV's that work well, first the 901 and JOYE 510, and then the Janty Stick. The day I stopped smoking was 7 Sept 09. I want to scream with joy-e!

First, the bad part: The damage done to me was nothing short of sad. I told my daughter that if I got the swine flu I knew I wouldn't make it. Thinking of Christmas was sad, because I knew I'd have no energy to prepare or participate much in it. I used Primatene Mist about 20 times a day for the last 2 years, an expensive remedy to take away the tight hard-to-breath sensation after almost every cigarette. I dreaded every doctor visit. I walked around trying hard to look normal, instead of sick, which I was, every day all day. I couldn't lie on my back to watch TV because I couldn't breath. My lungs made embarrassing noises at times, when I laid down. My voice changed like I was hoarse. My face was red for the last 6 months. I dreaded climbing stairs or friends asking me to do something with them because I couldn't 'move' right along the sidewalk quite like they did. That I was out of breath is an understatement. I hid my habit from 99% of my friends (and did a pretty good job of it). I won't tell you what my score was on my breathing test at the doctor's office because I can't think it, say it, or type it. It was awful. I didn’t have much quality of life any more, cigarettes tasted awful and I couldn't really inhale much, but I was addicted and could not stop. I just could not. I prayed most days for a way out of this prison, telling God that I really was sincere about 'wanting' to quit, but unable to do so. I tried to convince him that my motives were genuinly good but that I was too weak to just put the pack down and walk away from it, and I didn’t know why.

I remember about 2 months ago saying to my daughter almost at the top of my voice, "Why can't somebody come up with something we can 'smoke' that doesn't KILL US? I can't believe nobody's thought of doing that!" Then I discovered the PV.

Now this is the good part. I had my last analog at 10am 6 days ago and I started feeling better almost immediately, even that first day I think. By the next day I could tell things were better for me, I could breath better, and that’s gotten better each day. I can now lie down and breath fine, no more noises from my lungs, no red face. I’m amazed at the energy I’ve got now, I’m moving around like I did when I was 20, and there’s no hesitation with the stairs. I’m still having just a little shortness of breath with exertion, but hoping I’ll just keep getting better. All in all, the PV has given me a new lease on life, as I’m looking forward to living now and doing things, not dreading ‘having to do things’ and just getting worse every day with no hope in sight. I still can’t believe I’ve quit smoking. I feel clean for the first time in 40 years. I’m amazed every day that I don’t even desire a cigarette. How can that be? Well, a great big thanks to whoever invented the PV, and to all those now working to provide and improve them. I’m using about 11mg nic in liquids now but don’t think it’ll be too hard to cut that way down then eliminate it. (I couldn’t have been getting a lot of it before....I had an awful time inhaling). So there you are. I don’t think I can express how happy I am now but I’ll bet a lot of you feel exactly the same way.
