Warning: Don't Go To Bed With Your E-Cig
This morning I learned a scary lesson, and I figured I should share it with the rest of you. Last night I was lying in bed vaping my e-pipe, and I fell asleep with it still on my pillow.
For some reason, my DSE601 e-pipe collects a lot of e-liquid in the body of the pipe under the battery compartment, and if it is lying down on it's side or upside down, e-liquid will come slowly pouring out. And at any one time, there could be as much as 2mL (or possibly more) of e-liquid sitting in the pipe outside of the cartridge.
Sometime after I fell asleep the pipe found its way right next to my neck, and began leaking liquid. Sometime shortly after sunrise a loud noise woke me up and I found that my entire body was shaking violently, that my whole body hurt, and that my neck was wet and burning.
I immediately realized that e-liquid had leaked out of the e-pipe while I was sleeping and coated my neck, and as a result, it was absorbed through my jugular vein and the other major blood vessels on the side of my neck. I ran to the bathroom to wash my neck and a few minutes later the shaking subsided to shivering, and then maybe 15-20 minutes after that my body was back to normal.
I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I hadn't been woken up early by a loud noise. Because of the painkillers I take for my spinal injuries, once I can actually fall asleep there is very little that can wake me up. And normally the sound that did wake me up never would have been able to, so I'm really lucky that it did this one time.
I realize that most of you aren't using e-pipes, and that your e-cig devices hold much less excess liquid, but given enough time I would imagine that even the smallest amount of e-liquid could prove harmful if absorbed through major blood vessels, such as those in the neck.

A very good post and lesson to be learned. Although our e-cigarettes are much much safer than analogs they are still dangerous in their own way. We should not be unwary to the point that we do ourselves harm. Use protected batteries, don't charge batteries unattended, and do not fall asleep with your PV. These concerns come down to personal choices, of course, but should be taken into consideration.

Interesting post! I have always believed there is only ONE thing that's safe to have in your bed at night
And even that can have some risks if you aren't careful! (The last one caused me to lose my house!)

Hmmm? Penetration through skin. I've been afraid of this.
Throughout the day, my three dogs come around expecting a scratch behind the ear. I've been concerned that from my often juice-sticky fingers I could give them an unhealthy dose of nicotine. This confirms it:-(

Thank God it wasn't a cigarette... you'd probably be dead!
