Yes I waged the butts taking over 100 years to rot away, but last I heard they do eventually rot out. As for nic in vaping I suspected a problem when the carts, cartomizers, and liquid bottles get tossed by someone who didn't clean them out first it could get into our streams and waterways. Then you have the dead batteries to contend with in the environment.

Both ways create waste that poses problems that future generations will have to contend with or fix. I hate the thought of that. What I would love to see is recycling started for the bottles, carts, attys and batteries which would add another plus to this above analogs. It is better for our health to vape, but down the road unless we recycle the waste it may harm someone else’s health (main concern would be the batteries). Yes many are tossed daily from toys, phones, etc., but 2 wrongs don't make a right. You could call me an environmentalist, yet it doesn't take a brain scientist to figure out you can destroy the land/water so much that you destroy yourselves or those in the future. Homes have already been built over toxic forgotten waste dump sites that where discovered after people got sick, so yes in my life time we have already seen the effects of mans waste on the environment. What damages the waterways also damages the food chain, and man needs both in order to survive. Sorry it is a little off track from your topic, yet with the advantages of using nic vaping you also have to consider the disadvantages which is the waste it presents.

These are some great personal stories of triumph over pain. Thanks for sharing.

I think we all use nicotine as an analgesic for life's stresses.
    I know I do.

It may well be that recycling will be required, TJ, depending on what the FDA and BT have in store for us. There is the distinct, but hopefully small, possibility that all imports of hardware will be banned. Without domestic hardware producers we could be left with whatever we happen to have now, which does not last forever. So independent of the environmental issues, which I agree totally with you about, and you make a good point, recycling may be a necessity just to continue vaping.

I thought I read somewhere that Botox has been helpful with TMJ pain.

Wow, this thread may explain my symptoms. In 2002 I survived a 440 V 20 Amp electric shock across my upper body, and needless to say I experienced horrible nerve pain for many years. Before I started my 510 e-cig I had cut my 1 PAD cig habit by 1/2 for 10 days, and for the last 19 days have tried to keep vaping to a minimum. During this same period I felt like someone used me as a punching bag, or like I was getting the sore muscles right before the flu, but even though my kids had the flu I never got it. I thought it was the pg, but it didn't have any other real symptoms of a pg allergy. Maybe my pain was caused by drastically cutting my nicotine intake which caused this horrible nerve pain to resurface??? Now, taking two 81 mg aspirins seems to do the trick, but hate to think I still have the pain, and that I'm just covering it up. Then again, I am grateful for my e-cig & the fact I'm alive. This is my 19th day smoke free... I've NEVER made it this long, and have no desire for a cig! Thanks everyone for your helpful posts.

Grateful: WOW! Now THAT's a serious zap! Sounds like the danger I risk when working on amplifiers, which can easily reach 500V DC. If it was through your upper body, you are VERY lucky that the shock didn't take your heart out...which would make you Grateful Dead!

Since I have such a track record with debilitating nnerve pain, I can make that joke, but only because I know it is nothing to laugh at at all. Taking lots of asprin is probably worse for you than nic, since it is now shown that it can eat up your stomach...and the whole thing about asprin helping the heart has been disproven, with asprin takers having actually a higher heart attack probability than non-takers.

Please let us know what you find. Perhaps vaping higher nic will be of benefit.

I just wanted to let you know you can get a TENS unit without insurance. I just replaced an old unit bought under insurance ten years ago for back pain that died without a prescription and without insurance. Cost is $39 plus shipping. My insurance company paid $400 for a similar unit 10 years ago. It works great, so go order "Model# MPO3000 -Professional TENS System- Three Modes with Timer at (sorry for the spaces, I haven't made 15 posts yet): w w w. m e d i c a l p r o d u c t s. o r g (Just take all the spaces)

Try also increasing your caffeine intake. I drink at least two 24oz Mt. Dews per day. I have chronic back pain as well as IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). Smoking and Dew have kept me out of the hospital and with no scarring due to IBD. I have been afraid to quit smoking because every time I have tried the IBD flares up. I have a new sidesho on the way and will let everyone know if it gives the same results as smoking. I am uber excited that I may be able to keep the IBD beast down and let go of analog cigs finally.

I am studying addictions counseling and have been researching in the professional journals lately. I can tell you (though I don't have the links to the articles at hand) that nicotine is being highly researched for medicinal use in published articles. Nicotine floods the brain with dopamine (a natural opiate type pain reliever in the brain. For this reason, nicotine works as a pain killer and an anti-depressant. I have known for more than 10 years that I could not quite smoking and keep the IBD from ravaging me. I am so excited to have my new vaping appliance on the way as an alternative nicotine delivery system. All of these stories match the research and make tons of sense.

Blessings to everyone for finding an alternative and prayers that pain will be relieved or at least eased for all.

Hey, I know this is kind-of-a "necro-bump" to an ancient dead thread but I've been away from the forum for a few years and I wanted to throw in my two-cents...

I have a hereditary peripheral neuropathy that is demyelinating much like Guillain–Barré syndrome. I know that when I stopped smoking for a few years pain I hadn't noticed before came up in a pretty big way. I started smoking again and felt better within literally days. Tired of cigarettes, I started vaping and was still doing pretty well. A couple years ago I cut way down on vaping and eventually just stopped all together. Wouldn't you know it, the pain was back again; tingling, burning, pins & needles, throbbing, etc.

Nicotine has been studied for pain management and unfortunately, because of it's demonization due to the association with cigarettes and addiction, most of the studies go unnoticed.

    Nicotine as therapy...

My good friends mom was diagnosed with GBS 5 years ago, but it took them forever to figure out what the problem was. She almost died but thankfully was able to mostly rehabilitate. She will never walk more than a few steps ever again and does deal with much pain I'm so glad you found that nicotine helps the pain for you. You are a very strong person for dealing with this with such an inquisitive mind.

My story is minor. I have very sensitive teeth from massive dental work and exposed roots and nicotine is the only thing that calms it down. When I quit smoking a few years back I had horrible tooth pain and lots of gum bleeding :S so yeah, thank goodness for my vapes!
