This is the first I've heard of anyone having gum pain when switching to e-cigs, but from my limited experience since giving up analogs I can say that I'm much more aware of virtually everything going on in my body now. I think I'm watching as my body adapts to having fully oxygenated blood, and my heart and lungs become more efficient, and I sleep more soundly, and things smell better to me (the good things, that is, like food and flowers and stuff). I know I sort of keep asking myself: is this change I feel in my head, my chest, my stomach, whatever, something to do with my body freeing itself of toxins?
If your mom is having gum discomfort and it persists, it's probably best that she pay a visit to her dentist or a periodontist, of course. I wouldn't rely solely on advice from this or any other forum. Good luck to both of you!

Actually, sore & bleeding gums are a fairly common side effect when first vaping. It passes fairly quickly. PG and VG are both humidicants, so make sure to hydrate well.
I seem to recall something about nicotine and the capillaries in the gums, but I can't recall the specifics.

Mine got that way. Get her to switch to VG. That's what I did and only have problems when I over vape.
And over vape is going from a lot to excessive (pretty much constant). Even then I just felt a little swelling in one or two areas. It's gone the next day, but if not gargle with salt water.
It rarely happens anymore becaue I've learned my limits ans still vape more than I smoked.
Watch out for the flavors too cause some of them do the same thing to me.
Menthol chrystals caused little red bumps inside of mouth.
