Default Side effects of vaping PG

When I smoked my last analog on Sep.11th, that was the same day that my raspy breathing ended. It is hard for me to believe that one day on vaping pg instead of smoking could totally clear up my breathing after 40+ years at 2 packs a day (most of that time), but it happened. It was so bad that I had to find a certain position at night to sleep without the raspiness. It hasn't happened one time since I started vaping. I am starting to wonder if pg might have some additional benefits. PG is a mild disinfectant. Is there a chance that it might be controlling the viral infections at the same time it delivers the nicotine? I have never gone this far into the flu season without some type of bug. My wife even caught a virus that the doctor treated and I didn't get it (that's never happened before). It may be just luck, but I really don't believe in luck or coincidences. Has anyone else noticed that they are not getting the chest colds or crud that people around them are getting?

    Searcher;

That's a pretty big question...I think all of it has been answered on the Health thread.

    Anyway, here's some.

Kills bugs in your lungs (germs)? Unknown.
Kills germs in the air around you? Yes it does.
Raspy lungs? Unknown (most likely it's because you quit smoking--maybe they are healing up real quick--some kind of 'rebound' effect.
Chest colds? I'm not the best person to ask that--I'm one of those people who just occasionally get a cold (maybe I'm not due yet).......and remember, you usually get a cold or flu because your hands have the germs on them and you touch your face.

But if you want something to really wonder about--In the last three months I've lost about half of my facial wrinkles.

I've been mostly vaping (1 or 2 cigs per day) for almost 2 months now. I felt the beginnings of a cold about 3 weeks ago, then it went away. Usually I would have caught one by this time of year. I've been getting 2 or 3 colds per year for the last 5 years or so. None since I started vaping.

I use high (36MG) nic and exhale through my nose almost every time. Since that's where colds like to live, maybe that has some effect.

All I know is that I've never had the symptoms of a cold, then they just go away. Weird.

Well, PG is a humectant(sp?). It's used in humidors to keep cigars dry, so it makes sense that it may be drying your lungs (along with the phlegm) up. There's no studies on that, so I'm just speculating, but it doesn't seem farfetched.

I don't know th answer to all the questions raised here. BUT I can say that I have asthma. Over the past year or so I have had A LOT of wheezing on a regular basis (which is a big part of why I WANTED to quit analogs-wheezing kept getting progressively worse). I am just over 2 weeks analog free and, guess what?! NO WHEEZING! It seems to have stopped after the first week off analogs. I still have some phlegm in the AM but much less than I used to and (sorry-ick alert!) , not as thick as it used to be. I can't wait to see how I feel after a few months smoke-free!

As a smoker, I used to get upper respiratory infections often... like every month or two. In the 9 months since I started vaping (and I haven't had a cigarette) I haven't had a single infection.

Whether that's attributable to the PG or just not inhaling cigarette smoke, or both, is up in the air... but it is what it is.

I guess I've been very lucky. 40+ years heavy smoker (2+ packs per day, full flavor, 100 mms). LOVED smoking!

The FIRST thing I noticed, the FIRST night I went to bed after receiving my vape kit? NO raspiness! I couldn't believe it! None of the "death rattles." Gone.

    Six weeks later? Still gone.

True for me, true for many, I notice.

    Don't know why.

    But I'm happy.

Thanks for the responses. We are using a product that for the most part works to get a lot of users off analogs and also in some instances seems to instantly improve the health of the user. I haven't observed that happening with people who quit (usually for a very brief time) through the use of patches, gum, or pills.

You've got it reversed. Propylene Glycol (PG) is a humectant... it is used on certain tobaccos to keep it moist and in humidors for the same purpose.

    Humectant: noun
    1. Any substance that is added to another substance to keep it moist
