Default Ethyl Maltol = High Blood Sugars?

I just wanted to see if anyone has had any problems with using ethyl maltol. I vaped it in my mixes for about three months and got really sick and blood sugars rose to 577. Diabetes does not run in either side of families. I bought crystal form and dissolved it in PG, but did not have a way of knowing the strength and when I vaped it smelled like bakery in room, smelled good but hindsight I should have known it was too much. I followed formulas I found on forum. I lost my vision and was quite the ordeal to go through. I am trying to find out about the toxic of ethyl maltol. I was told by a nutritional doctor that it wouldn't be a good idea to breath in ethyl maltol. I am pretty positive that the ethyl maltol did this to me. I ofcourse mixed new juice with no ethyl maltol. Has anyone experienced effects like this. Thanks for any helpIt took me going to emergency room and getting on metformin and totally changing my diet to get sugars down. Any info on ethyl maltol and its effects when vaped would be greatly appreciated, thanks Please Beware of using this product in your mixes

If I am reading all the long and complicated words correctly at this hour (5:50am), then this PubMed text says the exact opposite:
Vanadium treatment of type 2 diabetes: a view to t... [J Inorg Biochem. 2009] - PubMed result

Of course that does not rule out that what happened to you happened the way you assume it did. Just does not sound like something to worry about in general, unless vaping EM is that different from eating it.

Vote in the polls, vapers, we need numbers!

Ethyl Maltol is the E637 in Food Additives.

    Applications:
Ethyl maltol is a safe, nontoxic and widely-used aromatic food additive. Only a small
amount is needed to achieve a significant effect. It is a sweet, synergistic
agent used in tobacco, food, beverages, essences, wines, cosmetics and other consumables. It has a remarkable effect on improving and increasing the flavor of
foods and it enhances the sweetness of foods. Additionally, it makes food keep
    longer.

Smile Ethyl maltol can raise blood sugars

All I can say is I would not use ethyl maltol at all. I did make mine too strong but it is a natural sugar and inhaling it, it goes straight to blood stream. It took about three months to build up to deadly levels and took three months to get out of my system. I am totally over it and have been for three months, weeeee! I hate that i went back to analogs for a while but am glad to be breaking the analog habit again. Anyone thinking of making their own ethyl maltol mix, I would say don't use it cause it is not worth the little boost to flavor. The first symptoms were tiredness and lack of energy so if you experience these then cut it out. Hope this helps, I don't want to see anyone else experience this. Have a Blessed Day

You can make a sweetener using Splenda. A 2-3ml of distilled (hot) water to 3 packets. Add drops of water or more Splenda to achieve the desired thickness. You may have to reheat to get it to fully dissolve. I then add it to some VG mix well and store in a cool dark place with my other mixing supplies. Although I think any sweetener adds to the gunk on atties or in cartomizers, a little bit helps some juice blends.

I have type 2 diabetes more or less under control by diet and exercise. I regularly check my blood sugars and vaping hasn't been the cause of spiking or build up. I'm sure after your big scare, you are now taking precautions with what you consume.

Yes, I did learn a lot thru that experience. I am very thankful it is over and no side effects. During that time I tried splenda and it made me sick and a couple of friends told me that it agrivates stomach linings. I can now really understand what diabetics go through. I did take some herbs by nutronics that help too. I did find out that cutting way back on meat and eating more vegies really does make one feel better and more energy. My sugar intake is much less as well, so it turned out to be a blessing in the end. It is really funny that when I first started vaping I didn't think my mixes were sweet enough and now they are. I think I was not waiting long enough for my taste buds to adjust to vaping or something, analogs had probably deadened them, LOL! I just hope people are careful with the additives like ethyl maltol. take care
