I would have to agree, this is the only thing I do not like about the 510....when I got my Dura-C Janty was out of the liquid I ordered with it, so I changed the order to get several packs of carts instead. I have been vaping for less then a week and have already gone through over 15 carts. I was thinking would only use about a cart a day....but I am lucky to get to lunch before i have to switch them out. I was never a heavy smoker, it would take me two to three days to smoke a pack, but with the 510 I am going through 3 of the prefilled carts a day......
Is this the same with everyone else here?
I cant wait till I get my mail today....should be like christmas with two different e-juice orders ariving today!!!

It is the same with mine as well. I can get about 4 ciggs worth of smoke before the wick begins to burn and that is with the straw trick. I know it holds much more but the larger cart just does not add a lot of extra vaping because it does not wick all the way up before the burning taste. I usually only get 3-4 drops in the top of one just like the smaller N-Pro carts of the RN4081. It can be extended some more by lying still for a good while but I don't usually use it that way unless I am in my truck.

Burnt taste with my 501
First of all thanks for all the advice on this forum. I've been using the 510 for 2 weeks .....coming off a 401. I have to say I like both models but I seem to be slightly partial to the 510 because I work in a nightclub and the 401 is constantly going off due to the SPL's. The 401 also goes off in my car. I have some decent audio systems in my car and can't really listen to them w/o the 401s lighting up. The 401 also seems to be more sensitive to wind. When I am driving with the windows down it seems to set them off. I have to keep the batteries unscrewed when I am not using them. I do not have this issue with 510.
Ok i'll get to my question regarding the burnt taste in the 510. I experience this also. I top my cartriges off regularly so I don't believe it's due to the cartridges being dry. What I did notice is that there is some type of fiber stuck underneath the mesh part of the atomizer. I can see several strands coming out from just under the uppermost part of the atomizer mesh tip.
Is this part of the design or are these fibers sticking to atomizer from the cartridges? I actually attempted to remove some of it from the atomizer using a paper clip and a good amount came out. It looks slightly different then the fill used in the catridge (it seems as though the strands are straighter). Could this be where the burnt taste is coming from? I am thinking the fibers burn n the atomizer. I notice that my 401 atomizers do not have any fiber underneath the mesh. With the 401 it's easy to see since the mesh tip is exposed. I haven't taken apart the 501 atomizer but I am very tempted to do so just to see what's going on. Does anyone know if the outer part of the atomizer can be removed to expose the mesh tip or has anyone noticed these fibers and knowif they are suppose to be there? Thanks.

peteten, there's some discussion of the inner wick material and the burnt taste in this thread:
Inner wick sticking out from under atomizer bridge
The taste certainly seems to be coming from that material, which *seems* to be designed to keep more liquid close to the coil and pass it off from the metal mesh.

I had this happen when I first started using 510. Have you checked your carts. I think the burnt taste comes from miss-aligned carts. When the atty gets really hot, the plastic cart melts. I guess dried atty does not help either. After aligning the cart with the wick, I never had the burnt taste. It's kinda hard to explain in words.
When I drip, I cut out about one mm off the cart. This way, I do not have to worry about aligning the cart with the atty. Try it out and see if that helps.

sorry if i am thread jacking but i figured this would be the place to ask.
after reading every post plus every single post from the past three pages(yes im obsessive about things like this) there are some people that arent happy with the battery life. I just ordered some disposable 510s to see how i like them but....
i sit in an office all day(IT world) and was thinking a PCC kit would be perfect for me because i could easily charge it at any point in time but when i need to leave my desk for hours at a time a pcc with an extra battery would be perfect.
or on nights where i go out usually from 10--4 am or so. i figured a pcc with a reserve batt would be perfect.
obviously not even being a noob yet(they are sitting in the mail) i dont know how much i will vape but a pack lasts me about 3 days if i dont drink and if i do a pack will last me a few hours.
so in the end based off what little i gave you(sorry) im hoping the PCC kit i order will do me justice

I feel the same way.

I love the vapor production and the taste of the liquid is better than in any of the pen style, mini pipe or mini's that I have.
Blu is $10 for 2 batteries, $10 for 2 atomizers

yeah, every single mod i've tried is a bit of fail. ptb mod is ok, still leaks and requires constant topping off, blue foam leaks like crazy so i threw a ton in there, still requires topping off frequently and constantly papertowel cleaning of the wet side areas of the cart. all in all, im hoping to quit the e cig soon altogether and be vapor/smoke free!

Yes.. those "fibers" are supposed to be there. They are the "supplemental wick" and it is a unique feature of the 510. You won't see it on other devices.
If you have removed the wick the atomizer will still function.. but it won't function like a real 510. It will function more like a hot 901. Vapor production will go down a bit and you might lose some lung or throat hit.
