So I Ripped the Nylon Wick out of My Atty

I haven't tried this on a new atty yet so far, but I did this first on a atty that is on its last leg. I worked pretty good but the coil is very weak. Well I got brave and tried it on a 510 atty that was 4 days old that I was saving for my first back up atty, before I dipped into my two new ones I have stashed. The difference is amazing the burnt taste is totally gone big time. I know some will say im stupid and destroyed my atty, but I really dont see any major vapor recduction. I see how the nylon wick works and understand how it works.

It's just a quicker way for juice to get to the coil. The way it looks it goes right to the coil and to the major source of heat. This in my opinion causes the strands to burn. All I can say so far is it still produces really good vapor and has waayyyy better flavor with no burnt taste. I think after I wear this one out I'm goin to try a brand new atty without the nylon wick see if it produces that massive fresh atty vapor. I've been puffing for an hour or so and the taste is freaking awesome. This with the pinhole cart mod is working out great for me so far. I understand this may not work for everybody, but I'll take the small vapor tradeoff for the kickass flavor I'm getting.

The fresh filler still is very important and I'm changing it about every 12 hours, it seems that is all I get out of my filler before I get the top off take 5ish drags, refill only get 3 drops on a soggy filler. I hope someone tries this and works for them. I'm chiefin' it up now as I type and I'm gettin great vapor, and unbelievable flavor with no burnt taste. I think the nylon wick was a good idea but a small amount of metal strands would do the same and stop the burning taste.

hey mjones, any way to post a picture or 2 of what you did? the results that you got sound AMAZING, and what they've cured are the only problems i have with the 510.... to be honest, i don't even know which part is the nylon, or how to get it out, and what other parts to preserve! i know i may sound dumb, but any info, instructions, or help would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks!

Are you talking about the fiber that seems to be woven into the coil or bridge of the atty. I always assumed it to be fiberglass, is it really nylon?

Hey, yeah it makes sense to be fiber glass over nylon. It must have something mixed in the fibers that will burn slightly. I dunno how the vapor is vs having the wick yet. I have yet to try this out on a new atty. I have to say on my dura atty it vapes better cause the strands aren't smothering the coil. If it continues to work this good I'll never vape a 510 atty with the nylon/fiberglass wick again.

Way to go man. Keep us posted in your progress. The attys are our most important problem right now. The batteries can be replaced and modded real well and so can the carts. The attys are the big mystery right now.

I've noticed that the fibers only hang down on one side of the bridge and there are short 1mm strands off the other side where they sandwhich them under the bridge. I'm gonna try on my next fresh atty pulling from the other side over time to keep them out of the coil, and then trim the long ones that result from pulling them back. Its gonna kinda be hit and miss since you can't tell exactly which ones have wiggled loose and are hanging out too much.

After two days I'm still gettin decent vapor out of the "fiberless" ones, but don't know how much better performance I would still be gettin with the fibers intact. It might be possible to "comb" them out and flip them back to cut the strands even and them poke them back under the bridge. I think I'm gonna try this fiber maintenence thing on my next atty see how long I can keep the burnt taste at bay. Then as a last resort remove them. So far I have about 18 days on my dura att with 2 days of no fiber and its still putting out vapor enough to get a good drag.

I seems like the fibers act kinda as a reverse wick also to prevent flooding of the coil and to keep just the right amount in the coil assembly. I think on order for the fibers to perform at top effeciency the fibers have to be within a certain tolerance. If they get too long from shifting they burn and too short they dont wick far enough. I think 10 or so small metal strands running straight to the coils edge would perform the best. If I ever get the cash to blow out an atty for testing and dismantle it, seems it would be easy to make metal strands to replace the fibers. I think the fibers have too many nooks and crannies for burn material to soak in and stay producing the burn taste.

So far this dura atty just wont die. It been 4 days now with no fiberglass wick and is still kickin'. Its been 26 days on this atty with heavy use and abuse and just wont die. There is a vapor loss but I attribute that use over time, and regular wear and tear. I have used every kind of juice there is and mixed them frequently. I have used pg,vg,jc and juice from different suppliers. The only noticable thing so far is it takes the coil about 2 secs to activate fully, where as new it only took a second or less to get to full capacity. I give it a hydrogen peroxide bath about every 4 days or so for a couple of hours. This seems to bubble out all the gunk in the metal mesh bridge and seems to wick better after a h2o2 bath. I will make another post when the atty finally dies, I really wanna see how long it last. So far this atty has outlasted all of my 901 attys by about 13 days.

Update,

This freakin dura atty is still goin with no fiberglass wick in it. The vapor has about dropped off to nonexistent, I'm gonna give it a peroxide bath and bubble the crap off the coil see how much more mileage I can still get off it. I'm vapin a generic 510 also with the wick ripped out and its kickn nicely.
