510 passthrough
Hi, I'm just wondering if someone knows how this thing works, I would like to know if the battery inside (10440) charges while being connected to the usb port. If so, how would I know when its fully charged?????
thanks

As far as I know you can only tell by the vapor quality. I've found they need overnight to charge, but I'm having problems with my 510 PTs. They all stopped working, and until I get my order of 10440 batteries in, I won't know whether the PT itself fried or the batts lost their ability to recharge. Hoping for the later, but if it is the PTs, then I'm getting a Bartleby.

I have a PT for my 510 and used it on my desktop computer and the monitor USB ports. It would work for a while then just quit and then start again for a short time. I thought the PT was bad until I plugged it into an AC USB adapter. This works just great and because it has a red or green light on it I can see when it is charged. The 510 runs off of the battery and the USB plug charges the battery. My battery was dead because it wasn't getting charged properly off my computer or monitor. Now all is well and I will use an AC charger all the time.
Here is a cheap one; USB Power Adapter

I did this too, although my AC-to-USB-5V does not have a light. I also have an external powered USB hub. Tried leaving them plugged in overnight, but no go. This was the case with all of them, and also switching the 10440s I had between them. The only thing I could conclude was all the batteries were dead. One would work sort of for a puff or two and then go dead. When they worked I pushed them very hard, so they may have just used up their charging abilities.
BTW I also had for a while the same AC adapter you linked here, but the light went out completely, and at the time I concluded that this little $2 unit had died. For $2 I got more than my money's worth, but I felt it best to try a $30 Radio Shack variable voltage unit, so I could try higher voltages later if I wanted to do modding.
Until then I have plenty of mega and regular batts and a charger, so I am ok until the batts come. I almost hope it is the PTs and not the batts so I have an excuse to pony up $50 for the Bart.
Oh the excuses we come up with...

Thank you guys, I get it now. I've had no problems so far with mine, but I've read that many people complain about it. The only thing that I don't like is the cable but it gives good power every puff I take. I will try to connect it to A/c adapter and see how it goes

Another thing to consider is the fact that some of these people having these problems might simply have a defective passthrough. Joye has some serious quality control issues with the 510 USB PT, and it's a pretty common occurrence for one to simply crap out on a user. In fact, one of the vendors I shop at, Rocky Mountain Vapor, is about to stop carrying the Passthroughs, because they spend too much time and money processing defective returns.

I've been using the 510 PT for a couple weeks on the continuous. Plugged in to PC's USB port or AC adapter or unplugged. I kinda pump the battery casing around some. So the first time I notice a power decline. I reseted the battery. That seem to work. A few days later I lost continuity completely. Okay something craped out.? Maybe the battery.. So I took the battery out n took a piece of wire n shorted the battery out. One end of wire to neg n tap the other end to pos a few times. The put it back in. That did the trick. Haven't had prob since. Although I did buy some back up batteries

Hmm, sort of like the shorting jarred the battery back to life. I'll try that with my "dead" ones, but like you I've already ordered several 10440s from DX. I guess for my PTs another thing to do would be to test the voltage of the PT. Just so odd that all 5 PTs would die, and so would all 5 batteries, some of which were not used at all. It all bodes ill for the 510 PT in general, which is really too bad because when they work, they are pretty good.

I have the Janty PT for use with Dura-C or the Joye510 and it works like a champ when plugged into my computer USB, AC/USB, or my USB/AC inverter for my car. It even works for about 1/2 hour on the battery with no power source, great for emergencies if you are carrying it with you. No problems here...but I am very gentle with it as the wires seem pretty flimsy.

when its plugged in are you at full power (and can remove batt), or does it just run off of the battey, and you plug to charge batt?
