Sooner or later though, people start to want change. Once the seeds of discontent with a regime start to germinate it's only a matter of time before real change is demanded and people start to rebel at the ballot box (hopefully if it is a democratic country).

We just need to look at history world-wide to see that from the fall of the Roman Empire to the present day.

Sometimes change is very slow though.
When you visit Singapore as a Tourist, you will not feel the tension. And yes, we are a democratic country and one of the most developed in Asia and the top 3 countries in the world with the most millionaire per capita.

Our government is extremely strict, but comes every election, the people still vote for the same government. Why? Despite all the complaints we have, most of us know that Singapore will not be as successful as it is now without the current government, no one wants to risk changing to a different one.

Do visit Singapore, you will be amazed at our law and order. How clean everything is.

got once while I am at orchard.
is a place ..sg lable is town areas where there is many shopping centres.

I was walking smoking real cigarette got this group of teen tourists..

I think they from US from the accent they spoke .

this teen ask me is it Okie to smoke here?

I tell him ya why not???is not in the shopping centres.

I told him while walking on the street in orchard you can smoke freely
Just that don;t smoke INSIDE the shopping centres. or outside "some shopping centres"Now taka outside cannot smoke already , you have to walk more further in front of the shopping centre than can smoke.

I feel curious ?in US is there a rule cannot smoke even walking on the street?that means zone banning of smoking???

Been told off by the shopping centre security guard before at taka.
he told me have to go further to the front and smoke.

think they got new rules on their permise..but I happen recently went there again saw smokers still puffing .think they relax the rules or don;t care anymore

by the way Taka is a shopping centre at orchard.

You cannot smoke on the streets in California. You can only smoke in designated smoking areas. I was having nicotine withdrawals when i visited California.

You must have visited San Jose or Santa Cruz. Those are the only places I know where you can't smoke on public sidewalks.

that why I feel curious and surprised

when this group of tourists from US

ask me can smoke here?I mean is on pavement why not?Because he saw me smoking that time and asked me

Maybe he also heard alot of stories and news about singapore how strict is the law.
Best law I have seem is ban on chewing gum in sg.
in Sg you cannot or even find any places sell chewing gum because is BAN.

reasons is ppl are unresponsible to throw the gum on floors...ect thus make cleaners getting hard time to clear

last time I do get my shoes step on chewing gum now because of this ban no more ! BUT suprising sometime do !

singaporeans can smuggling chewing gum from malaysia to sg. BUT AT UR OWN RISKS.

Chewing gum is banned? Wow!

Your government don't even trust you to dispose of chewing gum so they banned it?

Yes. The ban was implemented many years ago (15 over years) because of the disposal of gums.

We have almost 500% tax on tobaccos base on my own calculation, not based on any research.

We pay COE whenever we purchase a new car, the COE (Certificate of Entitlement) law is exclusive to Singapore. You can read more about it here Certificate of Entitlement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and yes, they cost a bomb.

Someone in our country got arrested for tapping into his neighbour's wireless network to surf the net.

Though not usually enforced, gathering in groups of more than 5 people without a permit is considered an illegal gathering. But they don't really care unless you look suspicious. I go out in groups of 8 to 10 all the time.

Trafficking more than 15 grams of heroine or 30 grams of cocaine is punishable by death.

These are some of the amazing laws we have.
