Hey Spider a pack of marlboro lights costs roughly around 9 USD.... but if by comparisons on the standard of living, for us this is really expensive.... and owning a Car is at least twice as expensive as in the US i believe....owning a honda civic can cost SGD70k... roughly ard USD50k?...... its even worse for property.... a small 100 sqr metre flat costs between SGD 250k-500k, a similar sized condominium on average is ard SGD 1m.. Singapore is not really an expensive place to visit as compared to Japan or England... but it sure is an expensive place to survive in for citizens like me....

Yeap i believe Singapore is one of the most autocratic democratic country....

In terms of smoking being prohibited, smoking is NOT allowed in enclosed public places(e.g. shopping malls), when in a queue (yes any queue), in public toilets, in clubs and pubs (unless there is a smoking room with an independent ventilation system) all restaurants and coffeehouses (unless a in a designated smoking area)

unlike in the US, there is NO freedom of speech ... thats why defamation suits are a common thing in singapore... especially those who dared offend our great Minister Mentor Mr. Lee Kwan Yew... and in case you're wondering... Mr. Lee was the 1st prime minister of Singapore... when he relinquished his position, a Senior Minister position was created.... and even when he relinquished his Senior Minister position, a Minister Mentor position is created..... wtf rite?....

drug trafficking is a SERIOUS offence here, punishable by DEATH if the amount exceeds a certain amount like what Xanthos mentioned....

possession of a firearm is also punishable by DEATH.... no guns and such allowed unless its the military or the police...

but even though the law is quite unbelievably strict here, tourists thinking of coming shouldn't worry at all...cos unless you're thinking of committing anything serious, which i doubt any of you guys will, some laws area relatively slack for foreigners.... for e.g. the no smoking and littering law in certain areas, enforcement officers WILL usually turn a blind eye against tourists... believe me.. i know....
and singapore is an extremely safe place to visit, you can walk around in the middle of the night and not worry about getting robbed or raped of anything...


btw Dr. Jim when you're coming to singapore izzit alrite to meet up over some coffee when you're free?... am quite interested to listen to your stories regarding the research you're conducting, and maybe impart some of your e-smoking experience to us hehe.......bring some juice too haha
