North Carolina fight soon to start.
Today (May 19) is the day that our governor, Bev Perdue, has said she is signing the smoking ban in ALL public places. All restaurants, bars, everyplace. The reason this is relevant to this forum is that this is going to bring vaping to the forefront here, as it has in other places.
I am already allowed to vape in several places that are completely smoke-free, but this may be a moot point, as the legislature will, I am sure, rush to close what in their ignorance they will see as a loophole that will need to be plugged.
Any advice from legal types/activist types on how to head this off? I know other states are already having this problem.
DYSLEXICS OF THE WORLD, UNTIE!
Thanks,
Jim

Sorry to hear
I never understood this total ban mentality. IMHO it should be up to whomever owns the building that the business is located in and then if smoking is allowed inside, require a warning sign on the door. State and county owned buildings, sure, ban it there. But privately owned businesses??? *shaking head*

it amazes me that the state built on tobacco now treats the industry like the red headed stepchild - but that didn't stop them from increasing the tax with the budget shortfalls...

Good ole Bev Perdue may sign it today
, but we have until January 2, 2010, for it to take effect. So, we have a little time to get a plan formulated.
Let me know if I can help at all, as I am not a legal eagle but am a willing activist. It would be nice to ban together - stand as one.......

I had the same stand about it in other states that I have visited. However, that does not prevent our government "of the people" from enacting these stupid laws and taking away our freedoms. Look at history...Prohibition????
Thank for your input.

I only vap now. The bans are so dumb. 2nd hand smoke is a joke if you realy look at the facts. Your chances of lung cancer is very low. Radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer in non smokers, but how much do we hear about radon gas? Tax smokers take their rights away. I also find it strange that bars that are serving a toxic liquid that leads to many social problems can not let people smoke because the smoke may cancer.

WE may have to, however, I wouldn't want to address the issue too soon. Doing that may put it "in their face" and make it a problem even faster.
IMHO, we would also gain much more support by promoting analog users to start vaping, thus having a larger number of people to have a louder voice. Not to mention that we would be helping analog users reduce or quit using them.
Stay in touch in this forum and be certain to keep your ear to the ground if the legislature addresses vaping (like they don't have other, far more important problems to deal with).
