e-cig killer
this is from ----
Brumby Government's Tobacco Control Strategy 2008-2013, which aims to reduce smoking rates by 20 per cent.
The new regulation, which comes into effect tomorrow, outlaws the manufacture, sale, supply, purchase, possession or use of unregulated nicotine delivery systems.
The decision will have no effect on the sale of nicotine replacement therapies, which are used to assist people stop smoking.
RIP E-CIGARETTE

Don't believe everything the newspapers post. I have posted links below somewhere that show the only change has been the banning of retail sale of Nicotene in Victoria as of 1st Jan 2009.

Then that is the loophole, if they trial this against what is avaliable,patches/gum,ect..the ecig would come up a winner, but then attract a wopping tax on the juice...

Maybe Ruyan and the others need to organize an industry association and get their own lobbyists going in order to protect a potentially phenomenally profitable business. (And more importantly, to let me vape in peace.)

Well I am waiting for a big load and just did an order and paid for it today! I did not here about this. The stuff was sent off today so what will happen when it comes? They will take it? Or is it ok as I payed for it before it was banned? **** I think I just lost over $9000 USD of stuff! NOT HAPPY

The worst thing about this is that now the Vic govt. have put the jackboot down, it sets a precedent for other states/countries/interested parties to do the same.
Now, people who may have been looking at e-cigs as an alternative may look at this as proof positive that e-cigs are the devil's plaything and the cause of all things evil.
Anybody who wants to slam e-cigs will point to this legislation and say "See? The government of Victoria have clearly thought this through long and hard, and have come to the conclusion that e-cigs are harmful. Therefore, we can ban them too, it's in everybody's best interests, especially those poor deluded smokers who need to be guided by a strong arm because they're obviously too stupid to see reason the way we do.".

To whom it may concern in the Aussie [or other relevant] gov't:
From Wikipedia on caffeine:
The LD (Bellinghamster: Lethal Dose) of caffeine in humans is dependent on weight and individual sensitivity and estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass, roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult taken within a limited time frame that is dependent on half-life. Though achieving lethal dose with caffeine would be exceptionally difficult with regular coffee, there have been reported deaths from overdosing on caffeine pills, with serious symptoms of overdose requiring hospitalization occurring from as little as 2 grams of caffeine.[75][76][77][78] Death typically occurs due to ventricular fibrillation brought about by effects of caffeine on the cardiovascular system
Please include caffeine in your list of banned products, as it's obviously a) a stimulant b) available "over the counter" [no Rx] c) does not require you to be 18 or 21 to purchase, and is d) widely acceptable for use in public, in the workplace, in the car, at home and d*mn near everywhere. Next time you see a 15 year old drinking Red Bull - slap the cuffs on 'em
Let me know when you have completed sucking every last drop of fun out of life by passing this measure, so I can assert your culpability in my suicide note.
Sincerely,
Bellinghamster
[Note to forum: Not actually suicidal... just [melo]dramtic]
Should anyone like to know how many of the popular energy drinks it would take to kill themselves: check out Death By Caffeine.
I know it might must be hard to do, but I think I've been close in Vegas
