Congressmen Spotted Smoking Electronic Cigarettes
It looks as though a handful of Congressmen have taken up electronic
cigarettes!
The battery-operated device, known as an electronic cigarette, looks
like a normal cigarette, but contains no tobacco and instead of smoke
emits a nicotine vapor when the user inhales. Reps. Cliff Stearns
(R-Fla.), Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) and Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) have
all been spotted using the device on Capitol Hill.
That's about as close to bipartisanship as Congress can get, so enjoy it
while it lasts! What's more, here's a beaming endorsement of
electronic cigarettes by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL):
“These e-cigarettes are smokeless and do not produce carcinogens. The
nicotine in e-cigarettes is controlled in a capsule that can help in
smoking cessation by allowing the user to reduce gradually the nicotine
level, hopefully to zero.”
Stearns has sent electronic cigarettes to House Minority Leader John
Boehner (R-Ohio) and President Obama to help them quit smoking. He’s
been seen using the device in the Speaker’s Lobby, where Speaker Nancy
Pelosi (D-Calif.) banned smoking two years ago.
That's right people: President Obama owns an electronic cigarette. How
cool is that?

I dont know if its real or not, but it would help move the legislation process along more quickly.

yep, this was really nice to know because the more people we have in high places that are using these things the better chance we have.
-
Seems like that would help keep the e-cigs around - I sure hope its so

The text of the posting (about members of Congress using e-cigarettes) came from the article in The Hill (a DC newspaper that tracks Congress) that reported Lautenberg's letter to the FDA urging a ban.

I actualy knew Obama smoked and was having a difficult time quitting and wondered how long it would take before someone got him one of these to try. If this is true, I wonder how he's liking it.

How could he NOT like it

I don't think I would count on that too much after all being a smoker didn't stop President Obama from signing the last cigarette tax hike into law

Why not? He can afford it....
I seem to remember some news articles reporting Obama mentioning chewing nicotine gum here and there, but I don't recall the specifics.
