Maybe a far fetch idea, but would the FDA ban nicotine and introduce a new and safer drug that acts like nicotine developed by a pharm. company? Has this new substitute already been developed?
Conspiracy theory I know, but the money lost on this would be hugh. Maybe a backup plan is already in place.

Just something that pop into my head right now, probably just a stupid thought, (only on 1st cup of coffee) but if it's true, I want to be the first to say "I told you so".

Lobelia Inflata - Found in most homeopathic meds. Has the same effects on the body as nicotine.

Lobelia inflata has a long use as an entheogenic substance. The plant was widely used by the Penobscots and was widely used in the New England even before the time of Samuel Thomson who was credited as discovering it. Indian Tobacco is still used today. The most potent part of the plant is the seed as it contains the most lobeline, the main ingredient which gives the plant its pyschoactive property. It is sold widely in online herbal shops, and is prized among entheogen users. Its taste is reminiscent of real tobacco, acrid and burning, and it promotes the heavier flow of saliva. A common misconception is that when smoked it yields a euphoric "high" like feeling, when it actually produces a more relaxant like effect. It can be used fresh, or dry.
Lobelia inflata is also used by herbalists for treatment of asthma, hence its other nickname, asthma weed. Some make ointments of the plant to use externally.
It is also said that plant material is burned as a natural bug repellent to keep away insects such as mosquitoes.
from its microscopical examination: anomocytic stomata, sclerenchymatous idioblast, very long non-glandular hair with enlarged base and warty cuticle, spherical pollengrain

So we could use the extract to fuel our homemade eliquid?

verhoeven - you most certainly could and in the future, homeopathic is one way the manufacturers/suppliers could go for approval. The process is far less aggressive as FDA approval. It also is interesting because from a claim standpoint, it really is where we fit in. With FDA approval, we could only make smoking cessation claims. With homeopathic using lobelia inflata, we could have a higher content to make it OTC vs RX (nicotine levels for homeopathic I fear would be so diluted to reach OTC that it would literally be a no-nicotine solution) and we can make claims that this is a healthier way to smoke AND it can help with the cravings associated with smoking.

The four National Journal videos of the FDA tobacco bill failed to cite Philip Morris' negotiation and coauthorship of the legislation (to protect PM's Marlboro empire), interviewed just one opponent of the legislation (but at least ten supporters of the legislation), and didn't interview any true tobacco harm reduction advocates (but lots of harm reduction opponents).
