I'm not aware that any synthetic nicotine is used in any nicotine patches, gums or lozenges, and drug companies have gone to great lengths to not disclose their source(s) of nicotine. It is likely that drug companies are buying their nicotine from tobacco grown abroad (India has been mentioned), and that the reason for drug company silence is because they don't want the public knowing that they rely on tobacco for their products and profits.
I've also recently heard that Ruyan has not begun conducting any clinical trials (despite telling me otherwise) for FDA approval as smoking cessation aid, that there's a power struggle going on between Ruyan America and Ruyan in China for control of the company, that Ruyan has had discussions with at least one large tobacco company.
While Ruyan has sued several other e-cigarette companies over patent infringement, I've been informed by various sources that they've settled some of the cases in exchange for money.
Regardless, Ruyan has been very quiet lately.

Docket Update November 5, 2009
Today there was no movement on the Docket on any of the pending Motions. We are now on the verge of the 3 month mark since the second hearing was held.

Now this is getting to be unacceptable. What is that judge doing? Sitting on his robed ass and waiting for the companies to go out of business?
He had better write up a doozie of a judgment for making us wait as long as we did.
LegalOne, any idea what the judge is doing?

I have no problem with him sitting on his ass. If it means SE goes out of business I will personally send the judge a box of candy. Same goes for NJOY.

maybe the judge is dragging his feet due to the upcoming holiday season? Government officials tend to put a lot of stuff off this time of year

If that is the case, we are looking at January 2010 before any rulings. Could it possibly go that long? I hoping it would, gives us all more time to get our e-juice and attys stocked up. Being a proud owner of a Chuck, those things are all I need to worry about. I would definately feel sorry for any newbees trying to find supplies, but I think there enough of us that are willing to go the extra mile to help. JMO

I think there has to be something going on behind the scenes for the ruling to be delayed like this.
We may be in for a surprise when it's all said and done.
Just my opinion, of course. It has no basis in fact.

Big Tobacco would be insane if they were not plunging into electronic cigarettes.
Electronic cigarettes are the future, without any fraction of doubt.
It's just a matter of time, money, law, and how everything shakes out.
But it is the future no matter what, how long, or whom.
And since Big Tobacco is not insane, the writing may be on the wall.
