sorry for the double post.
You are correct. This is also compounded by the fact that natutal nicotine is an enantiomer, as in l-nicotine. The other enantiomer, d-nicotine, is less active and there have been much less long term studies on it. Think of l-nic and d-nic as being equal in 2-D, but mirror images in 3-D...like your hands are enantiomers of each other. Synthesis of l-nic, or any pure enantiomer, would be very costly, since it is easier to synthesize an equal mixture of the two enantiomers. Pure d-nic is orders of magnitude more expensive than pure l-nic. Plants make l-nic far easier with enzymes, and tobacco makes it in large quantities. Thus, if you see a mention of synthetic nicotine in conjunction with e-juice, it is either a lie, or else half of the nic is the less active form, and there is no knowledge of long term effects on the body. I would not want to be ingesting it at all.
I mention this because there was a post recently elsewhere here that only one company (I'll leave the name out) sold real l-nic, and many others were actually selling synthetic d-nic. I don't know what the reasoning was behind this statement, but it could not be true at all. Cost dictates that we are only getting l-nic, as your research also points out.
That said, to actually carry out this extraction requires specific glassware and reagents, which would be quite expensive for the average person. And without lots of training in organic chemistry, it would be very dangerous, and a toxic waste nightmare. Well, more accurately, it would be dangerous and a toxic waste nightmare for us chemists too, but we know how to deal with those inconveniences. I would say that the chances of someone who didn't have training to do this without at least having to be hospitalized are very low. Indeed, I know exactly how to do it, and what materials I would need, and I would MUCH rather just buy high-nic juice. I don't even want to ever work with pure nic.
Deciding not to smoke is one thing. Forgetting to smoke is a different animal altogether.

I am not saying that e-liquid (the consumed element of the ecig) should be made using nicotine from a source other than tobacco. I am saying that e-liquid (or whatever form the consumed element of an ecig or ecig-like product would, could, or must take) should be formulated and designed in such a way that it consists of more tobacco, or tobacco derivatives, than the sum of its non-tobacco components.

No wonder I'm so hung over.

Nah, no worries man. It's cool.
Hey - can you watch Territoo's beach bag while I grab a swim? She said you could help yourself to her e-juice, but between you and me, just go easy on the half-gallon marked "Agave & Lime Vape"
I'll bring you back some asprin.

You can have some of the Agave & Lime, but leave the JD and Coke juice alone.
