That's how it started. The 'sin tax.' It's since evolved into something far uglier.....greed, want, and a way to 'punish' smokers for having a vice, an incentive to get smokers to quit, and a new revenue stream to cover budgeting shortfalls, instead of adopting a policy of responsible spending.

it would look like vicks- is right about progression of thought on where does the money come... but would any goverment offical admit that losing money on tobac, lets raise taxes on some other thing that has ties to being bad for people, i guess the fast food joints are next right?

i think back to '95, at a bank, someone was in front of me and had a problem with being taxed on money she earned, and put in to a savings account... goverment needs money for doing the things the majoriaty wants wants, gov.s plan had to alreadry have tobacco tax rising to offset the the tobacco use reducing, and then e-gigs came out and they werent ready for losing that money so soon...did i say that? did i say it right?

Most of the lotteries were started with the premise of "fixing schools budgeting issues completely with money left over".
All the billions they collect, unclaimed winnings and making interest on it all, they still have new school taxes on the ballots.

Appears they think of us as forgetting sheep and they will do as they want.
"For and by the people" should be changed "to the people".

Sorry for the off topic comment.

Wasn't it Thomas Jefferson who said something like Democracy works great as long as there's a revolution every 200 years or so?

And if you are willing to give up liberty for security, you deserve neither. Our freedoms have been chipped away at slowly over the years, and we either don't notice, or don't protest because it's "for our own good".

The FDA is a complete joke. Someone very close too me had their life destroyed in large part due to FDA approved prescription drugs. A nice cocktail of synthesized opiates prescribed by her pusher I mean doctor basically turned her into a depressed drug addict who was unable to function in any normal way. Unable to hold down a job and increasingly reliant on but unable to pay for her narcotics it ended in withdrawal induced seizures. If it wasn't for her neighbor finding her laying in a pool of her own blood she would be dead. But that's all ok because the FDA and our government says so.

I know Sean Connery said something very close in Red October.

Technology grew so fast I dont think many times we realize what the impact on us is. Long ago when things were less hectic people saw what the direct impact was. Now I think many just expect someone else will handle it.

As many commercials that show up on tv abt FDA approved drugs and their effects it makes me wonder how long they did test them. They could allow PVs, eliquids and if in 10 yrs they announced something abt them I wouldnt be in shock with the track record I see from the FDA.

I was opposed to the "Patriot Act", for that very reason, but I was shocked to see how many people were willing to give up their freedom for security.

    I think, therefore I vape.
