Minors and Vaping...bad news

Exactly!!!! Let people live. I've done a lot of stupid xxxx in my day, haven't been around as long as you but a lot has changed even in the past 15 years, and it doesn't seem like it's changed for the good only the bad.

No...not at all. I'm saying that people shouldn't be giving samples of addictive drugs out in the middle of malls...whether it's to someone who is 16 or someone who is 80.

This isn't a valid argument in the least bit. Bars are places that people go to get alcohol (or hang out, whatever...they accept the fact that the bar is a vendor for alcohol). Malls are not places that people go to feed their nicotine addiction.

It wouldn't be right if an alcohol company opened a kiosk in a mall and gave samples of vodka to everybody that walked by.

Aside from all of that, you have to be 21 (in PA at least) to get into a bar. Do you have to be 18 to get into a mall?

The problem isn't WHERE E-cigs are being sold, the problem is the guy that handed one to a freaking minor and gave out
false information. ATTACK THE GUY BREAKING THE LAW, not the rest of us.

You seem to be missing the point. The guy that is breaking the law is SE in this situation. You think this was the only guy in the whole company that gave out false information about the product? You think he was the only one who let some kid try it as they were walking by? You think he was the only one who will take their $200 any way they can, whether the customer is 17 or 18?



I stand by my opinion. Nicotine is an addictive drug, and I don't think that someone walking through the mall with their family should be exposed to a salesman accosting them with samples or w/e of it.

At this point, we need all the good press we can get. Sure, cigarettes are sold to minors all the time and it isn't a big deal, but cigarettes aren't under fire and close to getting banned. Every recorded incident like this lands us one step closer to a ban. Until the fire under our feet is out, we don't need clowns like SE xxxxing anything up for us.

Great response and right on the money. It's pretty much a given I believe that irregardless of how this industry shakes out soon ..........the days of selling e-cigs in malls is about to go away for good ...........thankfully.

This is a better example, I guess. Pretend I started up my own chewing tobacco company. I decide that selling it in malls is a good way to make money. I set up a stand right next to SE. As people walk by, I shove some dip in their lower lip.

This is EXACTLY the same as someone at a kiosk giving out samples of their e-cig, but it seems much worse...right? Why?

They're both addictive. They're both legal to be purchased by people over 18. I think most e-cig users have some idea that vaping is the resurrection of Christ, when in reality, most people think it's just as bad a habit as smoking cigarettes or dipping.

Don't get me wrong; I think vaping is amazing. It's just not something that can be treated differently than other age-controlled drugs, whether we think it's great or not.

I need to correct some misinformation in the above. Dip is considered by the experts as a reduced harm tobacco product. It is not on the same level of harm as cigarettes by a long shot. Spend some time at this site and get the real information.

Here's my opinion, the mall sells a lot of different things that isn't supposed to be sold to minors but its there! I honestly think vendors at the mall should stay there only because it helps spread the word.

No I.D.? no service. That's how its supposed to be. There's some stores in the mall that wont let minors go behind the back into the "adult section" without I.D. but yet some don't even card them! I can't stress this enough, for their own protection and for the protection of the minors they need to I.D. them EVEN for a sample of the product.

Seriously, why is that so freakin hard???

Treat ecigs like we do with tobacco or alcohol...check ID. Follow the law. It is really just that simple.

However, this should not effect the legality of ecigs...many minors are sold or have access to tobacco products...so are those getting banned because of that? No.

Times have definitely changed over the years. When I was young our parents sent us in the store to purchase their cigarettes.

As I was reading through this thread I had to comment on this........

I remember as a young kid in the 70's being sent into many 7-Elevens to buy my Mom cigarretes as she stayed in the car with my younger brothers.... I couldnt have been more than 11 or 12......

I also remember going into the store when I was young and getting cigs for my mom and dad. they would call the store and let them know they were sending me and it would all be bagged up for me when I got there.

As far as mall kiosks here, I haven't seen any selling e-cigs. The only place I have seen in my town that has them is a convenience store that has them behind the counter with the analogs. I also think it should come down to responsibility with the individual vendor to sell legally and not cater to minors. I get a shock going into our local mall just going into Spencer's. There are adult products openly on the shelves, not in a back section, and anyone can go in and see or buy these items. I still haven't figured out how that is legal, given the fact that stores who sell strictly adult products have to card before you enter the store, yet these places can have vibrators and packages with nude people on them out in the open for anyone to see. Responsibility for our children should be carried out with anything marketed for adults and not just e-cigs.
