The e-cig company should have said that they bought the ghosts because they are people who died from smoking and they want to get their testimonial about how e-cigs could have saved their lives.

I don't know if anyone here reads io9 (it's a scifi/fantasy blog owned by Gawker Media) but they had a post yesterday talking about this. It's funny, because the article they linked to claimed the identity of the winning bidder had not been released. I left a comment correcting this error and also sent an email to the author of the blog post.
