Default Stanford grads hope to change smoking forever

"The Model One, from Ploom, aims to turn the smoking industry on its ear by giving cigarette customers a new way to get the social and ritual benefits of smoking without a lot of the downside. The Model One is a vaporizer that, while not claimed to be healthier than cigarettes, is likely a much more efficient way to get a tobacco fix."

I cant post links yet, but go to news.com and its on the front page.

I guess because this is vaporizing actual tobacco, its OK per the FDA and not a drug delivery device?

    ploom: FAQ

It seems that they have classified themselves as a tobacco product and they are not selling it as a quiting device or as a safer alternative. Pretty smart of them. Only time will tell, but I would guess that they will probably fly under the radar.

I remember a few experiments that people ran trying to get the ploom to use eliquid - but didn't hear if the outcome was successful (I'm guessing not ).

On the other hand - the Iolite has a proven track record of being able to vaporize tobacco or herbs, does very well with eliquid, runs on butane, doesn't require the little pre-filled pods to use the thing, but is bigger and a bit clunkier than a box mod.

So the pods contain propylene glycol, glycerin and obviously, the flavored pods have...flavoring. It uses an alternative heat source (alternative to fire) to produce vapor. It is an alternative to smoking and not touted as a smoking cessation device. It has an on-off switch like most electronic devices. But it is NOT an electronic cigarette. Electronic cigarettes are bad. So if we put a flake of tobacco in ever bottle of juice, would they leave e-cigs alone?

The Ploom can be modified to use e-liquid fairly well, and even unmodified you can stick a bit of cotton into the chamber and a few drops of e-liquid will work, but so far I still prefer a 510. I like the Ploom pods every once in a while. They are like a portable Hookah without the charcoal smoke....when they work. The fill quality is inconsistent and they are more expensive than cigarettes so I don't see them working as a standalone replacement for a smoking habit in their current version (model one), but they show promise.
