LOL, I was expecting a joke! Maybe a car with blinking blue led lights and vapor exhaust!

I did not know what to say when I found out the car had not cracked into little pieces. I don't think I will spend that kind of money on a car.

As far as I am concerned, the US auto makers had MANY, MANY years to get with the program, but chose not to EVERY SINGLE TIME. I remember long lines at the gas stations in the 70s. HELLO! Was anyone home? Did it occur to US automakers to produce cars which relied on something OTHER than oil, which had to be imported? No, they did not, even though they had what, 30 years to do so?

For how many years were the CAFE standards, to increase fuel efficiency put before Congress? HELLO! Was anyone home? No they were not. The US automakers not merely rejected, BUT FOUGHT TOOTH AND NAIL ANY attempts to increase the fuel efficiency of vehicles.

Greater fuel efficiency did finally come to autos,. thanks to the hybrids of Toyota and Honda. Oh wait. They are not US auto makers are they?

YOU GO CHINA. BUILD A BETTER MOUSETRAP AND THE WORLD, etc and so on.

The US has caught up a bit - the new Fusion hybrid gets better mileage than the Camry hybrid.

I personally am not driving one of those death traps. I want a vehicle that is safe and strong enough to give me some protection when the idiots on cell phones crash into me. My old body won't take the crashes like a crash dummy's.

The car makers make cars that we want, and we are fickle and change our minds before they can keep up.

Some of those foreign cars are made in the USA by America workers. Just like some of the USA cars have parts made in other country's.

We have a international economy. If the USA goes down then it effects the other country's.

Mine is not a hybrid, but I get 37 miles to the gallon regardless. It is also a ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV), which I think is why my tag is so cheap.

I always figured the Oil Barons had something to do with cars remaining on gasoline for 30 years after the mess of the 70s.

I don't want to see my country go down. I would like to see my country have sound policies, rather than sell laws to the highest bidder. (See FDA control of tobacco, aka the Phillip Morris Market Share Guarantee Act, as a recent example.) However, I realize I am an idealist living in a fantasy world if I ever expect to see that happen.

The sooner we all get away from our dependency on oil the better. World trade in goods and products yes but complete Self sufficiency for our energy is the one thing we all desperately need and must have. It's the most important thing of all.

Carbon emissions per capita in China are 3 times less than in the UK and 4 times less than in the US.
