Quote from article T.B. posted:
“Smoking e-cigarettes should not be regarded as a substitute for smoking, because smokers still absorb nicotine from them,” she said.
Taiwan Society of Health-*Promoting Hospitals president Chiou Shu-ti (邱淑媞) said that consumers risked being poisoned if they smoked too many electronic cigarettes in a short period.
“E-cigarette smokers can also become addicted because of the nicotine,” she said. “What will happen if you absorb too much nicotine? Well, it could kill you.”
OMG.... there's just not enough brain cells to go around, I guess![]()
Listen, I've decided the "e" in "e-cigs" really stands for Endless.
"You always have that thing in your mouth?"
"Nope. I take it out to sleep."
Endless Cigarette, long may it live.
Bob I got to ask you since you seem to be very realistic on where vaping nicotine may be headed. Do you think all this press coverage will help or harm the future of vaping? I personally would never have joined the ranks without the news coverage. Must be tons of people like me who have recently started vaping or are waiting to try. But I know there are some scary and powerful lobbies out there just waiting to stamp out the next cool fad they feel threatens them.
Realistically, it's been out of our hands for awhile now. The more people who took up e-smoking, the more likely it was to attract press attention. What will follow is attention from the government in a formal fashion, ala Australia.
We've always thought e-smoking was a good thing. We wanted others to share the benefits we perceived we were enjoying. We created forum threads to spread the word. Was there ever a way to keep this a secret? Probably not.
Well it doesn't look like an all-out ban at least.
People smoke like chimneys in Taipei
The world will look up and shout "Save us!"... And I'll whisper "No."
Yeah I see government intervention coming soon too. I posted another thread about Customs not seizing nicotine free products. All the fuss is about the nicotine and not the tools used to inhale it right? Perhaps this is an angle we could use to protect vaping products.
Lorddrek: It's very much the tools, too. The FDA, in its notices to suppliers about confiscations, calls e-cigs "drug delivery devices" that are not approved. And if they're "medical devices," as some countries think of them, then they're also not approved. Lots of folks think e-cigs will be safe from government intervention. I'm not one of those folks, based on the wording in the FDA messages.
No way will these be considered as designed for just having some fun with nicotine-free vapor. Web site promotions and the patents spell out what these are for: Delivery of nicotine in a vapor. We can play word games for awhile, but that will likely only make the master madder when he speaks.
I'm still waiting for the first country to say "golly, these are just great!"
Exactly the opposite is happening around the globe.
There is no way the e-cigarette will ever be banned in Canada. The only possible crackdown will be on the nic juice. I can buy all manner of delivery devices openly in Canada for drugs that are, shall we say, frowned upon.
I'd assume it will be the same in the US and only the packaging will be have to be modified. I see the Volcano is sold in the US so this tends to support the assumption.
I do think the juice needs to be regulated. I know it's not a popular position but its a dangerous substance and it needs to be lab certified and the packaging and handling monitored.
Yeah I fear your right on that one. I wonder what will happen to the more heavy duty vaporizers that have been sold for so long. Probably nothing good.
I posted my fears (and yours) in another post and had to quote you. I feel like I am becoming the homeless guy with a sandwich board ringing a bell everyone ignores...
