What a bummer. That doctor is nuts! Hasn't a clue. But Bubba the Trucker is typical, I fear.

Causes depression, mutagenic?...where are these reports??

That said, one Chinese supplier did ask me recently if I would like carts without PG as 'it is not so good for health'..France has forbidden the importation of e-cigs that contain it according to her.

PS. Is that ol' Naz in the footage?

That was such a bad reporting job. Why didn't they just say upfront: We at Channel 10want to do whatever is possible to stop the use and sale of electronic cigarettes so we have slanted this report to meet that objective. What a complete load of crap.

Haha...Bubba the Trucker! Did they just randomly walk up to this guy at a gas station and asked him if he's ever tried vaping?

    Here's the print version:
    KFDA - NewsChannel 10 / Amarillo, TX: newschannel10.com - Electronic Cigarettes, Safe?

    Electronic Cigarettes, Safe?
    Mar 09, 2009

The safety of electronic cigarettes or "e-cigs" is causing concern for some local health experts.

But as NewsChannel 10 out today, local retailers are having a tough time keeping these smoke less cigarettes in stock.

They run off a battery charger. Look similar to a regular cigarette, but consist of nothing but nicotine and a chemical called propylene gycol.

Dr. Jim Luce of Tobacco Free Amarillo, "Propylene gycol is irritating to the skin, irritating to the lungs. It does cause depression over a long period of time, so I worry a little bit about those. And they are mutgenic as i mentioned so they are possibly cancer causing."

But on the other hand Dr. Luce says e-cigs are safer compared to a regular cigarette because they do not contain the cocktail of cancer causing chemicals.

While retailers tell me it is hard to keep these battery powered cigarettes in stock, some smokers say this trend will be short lived.

Smoker Clifford Vuzard says, "I've tried them. I'm not satisfied with them. You know, we were in a restaurant for an hour, I tried one in a restaurant for an hour and no sooner than I walked out of the restaurant I lit a regular cigarette."

The e-cigs are marketed as a way to help you stop smoking, but Tobacco Free Amarillo is not convinced.

Director Meg Williams says, "It's risky because they are not approved by the FDA, we don't know if they are toxic, we don't know if they are poisonous, it's not a safer alternative to cigarettes there is no statistically data proving they are ok."

Would have been nice if they had paid attention and focused on that more. Even with all the possible bads he listed, he still says safer.

So let the retailers worry about getting stuck with stock. I don't think the retailers will have any problems with that.

If she wants to talk about e-cigs being questionable for successful cessation, then fine. But why does she get to talk about the health factor. The DR, remember the guy with the medical degree, says safer than analogs.

You know they had to go find someone scruffy looking with bad teeth who has a job that most people associate with poor, uneducated hillbillies to give the smokers point of view. After all, aren't those the kinds of people who smoke.

And FYI before anyone jumps on me about bias against truckers, I've been married to one for 12yrs who, when he ticks me off, I'd lob in all of the aforementioned categories minus the bad teeth.

Did you request more information? Both statements are begging for follow-up.
