Washington (CNN) -- "Electronic cigarettes" that vaporize nicotine juice to inhale instead of smoke from burning tobacco do not deliver as promised, according to research at Virginia Commonwealth University.
"They are as effective at nicotine delivery as puffing on an unlit cigarette," said Dr. Thomas Eissenberg, at the school's Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies.
His study, funded by the federal National Cancer Institute, is the first by American doctors to check the function of so-called "no-smoke tobacco" devices, which are unregulated in the United States for sale or use.............

Dr.Thomas EISSENBERG
He maintains close relations with the Pharmaceutical Industry. He works at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University, USA) and for the US-Syrian Center for Tobacco Studies. His work was financially supported by many grants from US agencies and the Pharmaceutical industry. He is an excellent slanderer though, surprisingly, he didn’t state in many of his publications that he has worked (and probably still works) as a consultant for firms like Plowshare Inc. and Sention Inc. This obviously represents a non-declared conflict of interest. Besides, see, as an example, the interesting and innocent products a company like Plowshare develops… If you still don’t understand what it is about, contact us.

Dr Thomas EISSENBERG is author or co-author of a certain number of studies (5 at least published in Nicotine and Tobacco Research)[*] in which he has made use of a smoking topography system called CReSS [Clinical Research Support System]. He has personally contributed to its development, through direct funding (2000 to 2002) from PLOWSHARE Technologies, Inc. Plowshare Technologies :: The Smoking Topography Experts , an industrial firm strongly linked to the Tobacco Industry. PLOWSHARE has recently been acquired by BORGWALDT (13 Nov. 2007), a company which sells, on a large scale, flavours and other products to the Tobacco Industry. One of PLOWSHARE's more famous customers was, at least in 2002, Philip MORRIS.

I have seen alot of lies come out of CNN before but from what is up with this piece?
-
I would guess CNN is using Chinese New Years to scare alot of people into going back to regular cigarettes. Perhaps the big tobacco lobbyist are raising a stink in DC.
-
Nonsense. Can anyone find a link to the actual study? I somehow linked to a clinical trials page which looked like the study in question but no results were posted. The "control" cigarettes were there termed "own brand" which immediately smelled fishy. At any rate, given all of our experiences it's highly improbable that we're all experiencing a placebo effect. That piece is rubbish.
-
CNN, FOX NEWS, etc. they're all going to say what they're paid to say. I know from my own experience that it's healthier than cigarettes. Experience is the best teacher.

I just went and started posting on the CNN page
