Ooooh I get to be the first to post an Oscar Wilde quote! I can't believe this contest is already on page 3 without a quote from the undisputed king of the quotable! Hmm, What to choose? ...I'll start with a personal favorite even though it may anger some of our more conservative members (though I doubt said members will be reading a gay pride thread)...

Entry #1: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

"Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious."
-Oscar Wilde (1845-1900, exact date of quote unknown (does not appear in his publications).

Edit: Darnit, Uncle actually already posted a Wilde quote in the first post... well at least there are plenty to go around!

I really don't want to burst that bubble or want you to stop entering . . . However, I guess You didn't read the "Examples" to well . . .

It just so happens that Oscar Wilde is One Of My Favorite Authors too . . .

BTW: I also quoted his Lover Lord Alfred Douglas, and their affair became the reason/cause why Oscar Wilde was jailed and died a pauper & destitute at the age of 46 . . .

    EDIT: Yep - He was prolific . . .

People should seriously stop expecting Normal from "Me" - We all know it's not going to happen.

    "Important Moment in Gay History"

In 1908 the first American defense of homosexuality was published. The Intersexes: A History of Similisexualism as a Problem in Social Life, was written by Edward Stevenson under the pseudonym Xavier Mayne. This 600 page defense detailed Classical examples, but also modern literature and the homosexual subcultures of urban life.

    Important moment in gay history

In 1860 Walt Whitman publishes the homoerotic Leaves of Grass, which later inspires numerous gay poets.

Thanks for a terrific contest Uncle! What a great way to raise awareness of the issues faced by and battles fought by the gay community! Thanks to the vendors for your generous donations.
