Default "GAY PRIDE" Month Awareness Contest

    Month Awareness Contest

Come Have Fun and Learn about “Gay Pride”. . .
And Why It Means So Much Too So Many . . .
No Matter Who They Are Or Their Sexual Orientation

June 28, 1969 the “Stonewall Rebellion/Riots” happened at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village in New York City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots); This event was the catalyst and genesis of the Modern “Gay” Rights Movement in the United States. As such - June has become the month when “Gay Pride” is not only recognized, but honored both Nationally and Internationally by the “Gay Community” at large. To bring awareness to this major event in Gay History, I am having a Contest for the ECF Community for . . . “GAY PRIDE” MONTH

How to Enter: The Contest will be "Important Moments in Gay History" (Entries would have to include The Event, The Date it Happened and Why It Was Important) and/or "Quotes from Famous Gay People throughout History" (Entries would have to include The Quote, by Whom, and When they lived) . . .

    Examples:

Entry #1: “Important Moments in Gay History”

In 1945 - Upon the liberation of Nazi concentration camps by Allied forces, those interned for homosexuality are not freed, but required to serve out the full term of their sentences.

Entry #2: “Important Moments in Gay History”

In 1950 - The Mattachine Society, the first sustained American homosexual group, is founded in Los
Angeles (November 11); 190 individuals in the United States are dismissed from government
employment for their sexual orientation, commencing the Lavender scare.

Entry #3: “Important Moments in Gay History”

“The Daughters of Bilitis” was founded in San Francisco in 1955; This is the first National Lesbian Political and Social Organization in the United States.

Entry #4: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

“I've had to fight to be myself and to be respected. I'm proud to carry this stigma and call myself a lesbian. I don't boast about it or broadcast it, but I don't deny it. I've had to confront society and the Church, which says that homosexuals are damned. That's absurd. How can someone who's born like this be judged? I didn't attend lesbian classes. No one taught me to be this way. I was born this way, from the moment I opened my eyes in this world. I've never been to bed with a man. Never. That's how pure I am; I have nothing to be ashamed of. My gods made me the way I am.”
Chavela Vargas (Costa Rican-born Mexican singer, Born 1919 - ? and publically came out at the age of 81)

Entry #5: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

"Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." . . .
Oscar Wilde (Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic, 1854-1900).

Entry #6: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

“I am the love that dare not speak its name.” . . .
Lord Alfred Douglas (British Author, Poet, and Translator, 1845-1900).

I'm used to being in the minority. I'm a left-handed gay Jew. I've never felt, automatically, a member of any majority.

Entry #1 Important moment in gay history and a quote

One of my favorite comedians, Todd glass, came out of the closet on Marc Marons podcast. I think anytime a celebrity 'comes out' it seems to make people more accepting of other peoples sexuality, and that's definitely another step in the right direction.
