Why do we smoke? Why do some of us not find vaping satisfying?

As the dominant tobacco alkaloid at perhaps 90% by weight in the tobacco alkaloid spread, nicotine gets all the attention, with the other 10% by weight of tobacco alkaloids being largely ignored.

It is not nicotine that hooks us, it is nicotine plus the all the other tobacco alkaloids. For many, nicotine e-liquid is unsatisfying. These folks vape high concentrations chasing what no amount of nicotine can...

Ecigs deliver the nicotine, plain and simple. The ability of ecigs to make ultralight and light smokers develop symptoms of nicotine overdose offers compelling evidence.

I've mentioned it before, but when comparing nicotine blood levels (nicotine has a short half-life of 2 hours) and cotinine blood levels (much longer half-life for cotinine around 20 hours), the peak blood nicotine level is over-emphasized since it drops rapidly.

What this means is that while nicotine level...

Conflicting data makes a scientist crazy.

On one hand, some studies have suggested that uptake of nicotine from vaping might be as low as 10%.

On the other hand, I've produced data myself that shows an efficiency of around 40% in getting nicotine from the cart to the vapor.

In order to square my results with the studies, then a 25% efficiency from vapor to body would be required (for every 1 mg vaped, 0.4 mg makes it to the vapor, and for every 0.4 mg in the...

I wanted to update anybody who might be interested in having me do a nicotine determination on their e-liquid.

Awhile ago, I posted on the nicotine determination thread that I'd test e-liquid samples for anyone who might want to send me their liquid. The response was good, and I've been able to test numerous samples and have found that the procedure works very well and gives accurate results. I appreciate everyone who has helped me to put my procedure to the test by submitting their...

I ran the vaping experiment with an argon trap, and under the conditions I used, for every 1 mg of nicotine vaped, 0.46 mg of nicotine made it into the vapor... 46%.

I've been arguing for some time that there's a "40% rule" in play for vaping versus smoking. I've observed empirically that a good number of vapers who "find their level" tend to vape 2.5X more nicotine per day than they used to smoke per day. At 46%, the multiplier is 2.17, very close to the 2.5 figure...
