Once again, I see a doctor poo-poohing e-cigarettes and advising, "For now, if you're a smoker trying to quit, talk to your doctor about other, proven methods." If you have managed to give up analog cigarettes in favor of the e-cigarette, which of the following did you try without complete success? |

Forgot to attribute the source: Parade Magazine, July 12, 2009, the "Stay Healthy" column by Dr. Ranit Mishori. "E-cigarettes: Can They Help You Quit?" She also quotes Jack Henningfield, who serves as a scientific adviser to the the World Health Organization. "Its effects, he says, 'are not benign', especially when breathed into the lungs." Compared to what? |

I've tried everything on that list but chantix, and the most successful product before e-cigs isn't there. Swedish Snus. Snus actually worked great for me for about nine months before the evil beer demon got me at a bar. E-Cigs successfully handed the beer demon his ass already. That reminds me, I need more beer. Bbiab.

Tried patches, gums, lozenges and oral inhalers. All they achieved was making me want to smoke even more.

I managed to cut back, but not eliminate, cigarettes while using gum and lozenges. I was down to 1/2 a pack when I switched from analogs. Still use the gum and lozenges. I am allergic to the glue in the patch. Tried the nasal inhaler and it burned like ![]() Ironically, by the time bupropion was approved in low dosage for smoking cessation, I had already been on 300 mg a day for depression, that was triggered in 1991 when I totally gave up nicotine and my sanity. Got 'em both back, though some would disagree about the second one ![]() I believe in nicotine. It is truly a wonder drug. It is just the tobacco smoke that's a bummer. |

didn't try lozenge or inhalers and none worked for long,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they can all work(although they require much more willpower) as long as you stay on them. You can't wean yourself off or quit or you will start back up. E'cigs brought about the accidental quit with zero willpower and not even a craving for the analogs

The "Approved Methods" DO NOT WORK, at least for me. I think the people that succeed with those methods do it more from will power, which I guess I don't have. But with E-Cigs I can still smoke (sort of) and not put all that bad stuff in my lungs. Smoked for 30+ years, was getting up in the morning coughing up crap, not now. Now I need to get the wife up to speed. Burnie |

And 2 that aren't listed, "Quest Cigarettes", "Smoke Away". I actually quit with them in combination... for 4 months. I might have been OK if I had had the Quest "0 nic" handy when the Beer Monster came by.

I tried everything on list except the nicotine inhaler and the nasal inhaler. All those things I tried did not work. Those pills was the worst. |

I have used the patches, but never completely quit smoking with them. Tried Wellbutrin - man, talk about side effects. Nasty! Quit with Chantix - started again after stopping Chantix. Doctor wanted me to try it again. I did, quit again, started again after stopping Chantix. The only way I would be a nonsmoker was if I took Chantix the rest of my life. Never tried the gum, lozenges or inhalers. Quit smoking the first day with my ecigarette. |
