This is specific to the RN cigars like the bada-bing, shimmer, RN4062 etc etc. They have an switch that's exposed to the back vapors and any drips that come through from the atomizer. Soon the switch gets covered with sticky stuff.

Then they STICK. This one stuck OFF. Many times they get stuck ON - and you get a fire in your pocket

Below is the switch. Nasty sticky goo all over it, under that as well.

That little brass part that looks like clock hands is pushed (not very well) on a plastic post. The plastic post is embedded in a little flap of silicone in the hole underneath. When you draw on the cigar, it pulls on the flap, and the "hands" make contact with the brass contacts on either side. Not so high-tech

I've mentioned on a lot of threads, you can wash these things.

You DON'T have to take it apart to clean it. I only did this for you guys, so you can see what's going on in there.

Pour hot water from the tap in the battery end, and gently blow it through the other end 10 or 20 times. You can fill it up 3/4 from both sides and shake the heck out of it too. Then blow and tap both ends on a paper towel till all the water stops coming out. That takes a while... Stuffing a rolled up paper towel down the atomizer end soaks up remaining water in the atomizer mesh.

This one, after cleaning... works again :-)

Yes, these parts are straightforward to clean - just dried and semi-dried juice. The heater coil is another matter. Roll-on deposit free juices !

great to see that its just a little mechanical switch,
great to know that have not to be very careful cleaning it.

@RjG, i would like to post these pictures on a german forum, i bet it will help us more understand how to clean the cigars best.

Why the gunk is black ...

2 reasons :

* the juice dry residue has oxidized
* contains bits of the carbonized deposit from the heater coil

Something new to add to this thread.

For the three RN cigars I got from puresmoker - the first two, that died very early deaths, had the above switch in them.

The third lived quite a while longer. It lived for many months actually, right until the atomizer burned out. I just got around to ripping it apart last night. It had a COMPLETELY different switch in it. It appeared to be a magnetic switch. The rest of the parts were definitely RN brand. So there was a change somewhere along the lines. Or Steve was getting it from a different source towards the end.

Sure, you copy ANY of my posts to wherever you like.

You might want to copy the actual photos and post them somewhere
more permanent though, since those photos are currently hosted on my
personal ISP directory.

The Ruyan has different parts, and a very high quality switch, plus a
one-way valve that keeps the juice from running back into the cigar body.
They come clean by blowing water through them too, but only in one direction (because of the valve)

The DSE switches are different again. Very close in design to the last RN magnetic switch mentioned above.
