Here it was suggested that would be unavailable from now on (that was February); can't think why it would be in Romisen's interest

SD with the switch where I want it!
Yes you can, and in silver also. Trog would have you believe Romisen is making them exclusively for him. Not so. He may own the rights to the "Screwdriver" name (Highly unlikely on an international level) but he has no rights at all to the Romisen model he uses for his mod. If he is making a deal with Romisen for exclusive rights then maybe he will. I'll believe it when I see it. I got a nice warm and fuzzy e-mail from trog when I made my Romisen mod and said I would make a few and sell them.

One a last note if Trog doesn't update or improve his original design I think he will be standing out in the cold very soon. There are so many custom PV's coming that are a step ahead of Trog's original.

Anyway props to Trog for his original design ideas and I wish him the best.......

    Proof is in the picture.....

To me the big mistake was in the pictures - the SD always looked massive although apparaently it's quite small. I agree with you, but I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who devised the SD has something up his sleeve ...

The SD was born both from seeing a need and fulfilling it beautifully; that's quite something. Was it a one-hit wonder, now a fixation, or is there more to come ?

If there is a knowing that more is required (not just a bigger battery), just as at the dawn of e-cig time, it's well-hidden

I'll say! I'm going to gut an xbox 360 and put it in a Sony PS3 case, call it a PS360 and claim rights to this with intent to mass produce this.....and expect Sony and Microsoft to not only agree to this, but make it for me!

How can one claim that a flashlight company, has now taken up a new department just to cater to his mod? Hell, they own the flashlight, why talk to him at all, and just say "thanks for the idea!"

But no, everyone has gone through great extents to reproduce his screwdriver mod. I bet he believes Romisen loved the shape of his screwdriver mod so much, they decided to use it as the case of the flashlight!

Someone is off their rocker, but I guess I would be upset too, if I had a house full of flashlights and sales began to decline because people can make or buy them elsewhere. I suppose that may be how some of the sellers feel about those who sell mods.

I would like to give credit where it's due, but after reading that link in the quoted post...the hell I will. Obviously someone has great difficulty doing the same in that thread.

Now excuse me, while I head off to make my PS360's. Readers beware. Do not attempt to steal my idea or you will receive angry emails from me.

Nothing snazzy to write, at the moment. So for now, enjoy my sig of nothingness.

I should have followed this advice. I just got 2 of these today (finally)... you're right, this is a GREAT little flashlight, incredibly bright for it's size. I should have ordered a couple more.

For those who haven't ordered one yet, take the advice!

I haven't chopped one up yet... but, has anyone else had any issues with the connections on these, in general?

One thing I noticed right away is that the switch doesn't always work and I have to twist the body to get it to turn on and off consistently. If it's either too tight or loose it doesn't work. It either won't come on or stays on, when I click the bottom switch. Not a huge deal, once I get it tightened just right it works as you'd expect.

I would say I maybe got a badly made one, but they both do this the exact same way.

Has anyone else had a problem like this with it?

(If so, I'm wondering if this will still be an issue once it's modded. Maybe there are threads or connections that need to be cleaned up, or solder added somewhere to improve the connections(?))

I don't have this particular flashlight, but I'm assuming that this is like most of the flashlights manufactured in China. If so, it may not be the switch itself.
Try looking at the bottom spring. Is it making contact with the inner walls causing it to bypass the switch? If so, you may have to adjust the spring or remove and/or replace the switch if at all possible, since it's likely the spring is embedded in the switch housing.

Yes, these are some pretty impressive flashlights!! They are actually on par with my Surefire which I paid about 10x the amount!! So definitely order enough to keep a few of these for their original intent.

Both of my torches have similar issues as yours. If you screw them all the way together, the clicky switch doesn't work very well. This seems to be a manufacturing defect of not making the parts quite long enough(?). This causes the movement of the clicky switch to not be allowed it's full stroke. I find that if I loosen the threads by a turn or two, the switch works perfectly....unfortunately, it then means you have a sligh gap between the two pieces. Se la vie (sp?)

Thanks for both of the replies!

Yes, that's EXACTLY what it's doing, glad it's not just me.

I put it all together tonight and it works great! I did add a pushbutton switch up on the neck so I can use the clicky at the bottom as a 'master' (but, it looks like if it's screwed together too tightly this isn't going to help... oh well, I'll get used to it and make sure it's not too tight or loose, no big deal.)
I was going to add a 3mm LED too, with a 100ohm resistor, but the switch was hard enough to fit and I didn't really want to fight with the LED... maybe next time.. if so though I need to leave more room when cutting the top off, and find a smaller switch (maybe one of those little 'tactile' ones).

If anyone else is making one, leave as much of the top on as you possibly can when you make your cut. You will need all the space you can get if you want a switch and/or LED up there.

You were right dedmon, it's not the switch. With the original switch in place, with the case tightened all the way up, the negative end of the battery bottoms out against the metal that the spring sits on. This causes the switch to be bypassed.

I added a plastic spacer at the bottom of the case, so that the botom of the battery only touches the spring and the plastic, not the other metal parts. This works, and the switch is effective again, but I still can't tighten the case up all the way.

Oh well, it works, and came out ok for my first try.

Thanks for the help and thank again Ripley for the great instructions!

You could add an o-ring with the propper cross section OD to "seal" it for a tighter fit.

Or perhaps cut a coil off the spring, so that it can close completely.
