Default Cold Heat ..soldering Iron mod.

Ok ...so I was going to try and make a Cold heat soldering Iron work as an 'atomizer'.....but realized the idea wasn't so good at all once I put my thinking head on and thought some more about the electrical side of it. ......so I gave up on the idea of using it as an atomizer....... but still I converted it into an e-cig anyway (with an RN 4072 atomizer) it works ok. It's actually a very good thing to mod....probably one of the easiest....very cheap and comes with a nice little carrying case....... if you leave the front led connected you also know the atomizer coil has broken if it doesn't light up!

Hi kinaba.......yes ...after thinking about it I realised you would still have to use nichrome wire of about the same thickness as in a standard atomizer....u know the story ....resistance, watts, amps, volts..heat.....it's all a balance to get the best battery life. ......it was easy enough to turn into an e-cig though. ..lol

I tried doing some soldering with it and they really aren't very good...I suppose they could be handy for some simple soldering situations but not for general use.........it would only have sat in my toolbox for years and every time I went to use it I would need a new set of batteries......vaping with it is a much better use for it.....lol

You could basically get any piece of metal hot enough with it to produce vapour....but it's all about how much power it drains from the batteries to get the heat...to make it economical on batteries at that voltage you would really have to end up making a coil about the same size as a normal atomizer anyway. ....The chineese have done all the sums and a normal atty coil is the probably the optimum size for the heating coil.

I have to say the cold heat soldering iron is a great and cheap thing to use to make a mod, probably one of the easiest things to make a mod out of.. and I think it actually looks quite good and feels good in the hand. I am using 4 ..1.2 AA size Ni mh batteries which actually chuck out just over 5 volts fully charged and is producing tons of vapour...but you could easily put a dummy battery in and reduce the voltage.

There is even a computer chip inside....I haven't got a clue what it does but I left it in....lol

That looks great! I think this is the bes mod yet. Designed for you hand, holds plenty of battery power, intregarted switch and LED.

Was it easy to add the atomizer connector or did you hardwire a atomizer?
