Dan, try using a 2-56 SS threaded insert.

The hole size for 2-56 is .067". Needless to say I have run into a brick wall here. 4-40 is .101, and does not come up with the tapping problems, but that changes the type of screw and spring and washers I am using. More to follow.

I'm posting this link to share some pictures, notes, and information on the ScubaGenV3 builds that I have done for some other members and myself.

Dan...the problem with SS is not that its tough...it galling that you have to control..its very abrasive. You need a good tap like in the link below and brush some anti-seize compound on it. Also dont try for a full thread...drill your hole bigger and shoot for no more than a 50% thread. Dont even bother trying to tap SS with a worn tap...especially that small. Or you could check in to thread forming taps..but I dont know if you have enough material around the hole to take the pressure. You probably know this already but it may help others...so just sayin'.

These are really good taps...Greenfield's are good also and a little cheaper.

    MSC Item Detail

or these..but expensive and have to be very careful when tapping by hand..

Hello everyone, especially Scubabatdan, I'm relatively new here on the ECF and met Dalton63841 over on the Divine thread and he clued me in to all the fantastic tanks you've got going here. Sure wish I had found this thread sooner as Dalton's been teasing me with snaps of his Scubagen tank all night and letting me know that the only way I'll get to try one is if I am a very good person who comes over here and says how do to all of your wonderful folks so you can find out that I might be worth putting on the next coop when you've got your newest DSU ready to go.

    Sincerely,

A polite gesture though, I should hope.

I think that is one of the nicest and most sincere attempts to get me to do another co-op, I would have to say that, if and when I get the kinks ironed out in the DSU series it MAY become a co-op.
