    butt a 510 atty thread against the side of a 901 batt thread and you'll see what i mean.

    lathe? nah. only if you're going to turn your own stock.

    @Laredo7mm
    thanks for the link! even is shipping is killer, it's got to beat the one i was looking into!
    7 x.50 Hand Tap, High Speed Steel - HermansCentral.com available at HermansCentral.com
    a lathe is needed for a die, no ??

    guess i lost 2 cents

    With a magnifier I'd put a 901 at 0.85 so might be 0.75, might be 1.0

    Don't forget to order the drill bit if you need one, 15/64 should work.

    Nah, I use dies and taps by hand, no lathe in my shop, unfortunately.

    I made up six feet of 8mm x 0.75 in about a minute a while back. Put the die in a vise, chucked up some correctly sized brass tubing in the hand drill, and drove it though the die. Worked great, just make sure you use plenty of lubrication or cutting fluid, it gets hot!

    By eye, I'd say the thread pitch is either 1 or 0.75; but most say 0.5

    I'll put my 2 cents on 0.75.

    When i say 'by eye', i'm looking at a pic on the screen and doing some trig

    btw, if the 1.0 helio thread is too wide, just put it in a press, or (enter improvised technigue here) ...
    The pic is of a M12 x 1.25 so much for your eye

    no the atty would screw into a die. The tap would screw into the battery.

    No a atty on a 510 is male so it would screw into a tapped out hole . A die cuts threads on a "male" screw or bolt.

    Sorry stevo, i reread what you wrote and yes the tap would screw int battery and the atty would screw into a die but my question was if the end product of the tap, the tapped out hole would fit the atty. Just wasnt clear on my question but it was answered. i do use taps and die just about every day and know the difference and i see what you were saying, sorry.
