    Once again, great thread.

I found a roll of 100% natural cotton twine I had picked up some time ago. It is very soft and looks twisted as opposed to braided. And suggestions in using this as an experimental wick? Thanks in advance.

The yarn your using is cotton? Or bamboo? Where did you get it?

    both from michael's sir

cotton yarn (regardless, make sure whatever you get is 100% cotton and NOT mercerized)

    Lily Sugar 'n Cream

bamboo crochet thread was linked a few pages back, the michael's website says they don't carry it but its in the store

both dirt cheap (I think they were 2.99 and 1.99 respectively) for enough material to last years. I haven't used the bamboo yet, its thinner and will require stacking or braiding

Ok, got my cotton candle wick (100% cotton, unprimed, lead-free). Perfect size for Stardust. Definite flavor improvement. It's also very cheap! (You spend as much in shipping as for the 10 yards of the stuff.)

    RockinRobbieSF that is awesome!

I'd love to see a new vid with you critiquing various wicking materials (hint, hint)

I have just put ordering some on my todo list for this weekend!

Smoking posed much greater risk and we knew it yet we all puffed away for years while this is a potential risk. Most that claimed glass fibers as a carcinogen risk now don't. Now this could be from lobbyists pressuring but it could also be because the proof isn't there? At this point I am not worried about it but I do agree we need better wicking materials with no risk.

I don't believe silica is a cancer risk at all. Its a risk for restrictive lung disease, which in some ways is worse than cancer, if you find the idea of withering away with no available treatments over 3-5 years as horrifying as I do

Anyway, like you said, we don't know

    The cotton wick

    The silica wick

The difference is subtle, but there. And the silica wick was put through far shorter and less intense (lower watts) abuse than its cotton cousin

    Interesting
