But I digress, this thread is not about mesh (tons of threads on that) I swapped out the gauze on my Ody and put in Cheese Cloth...2 cm wide piece by whatever (doesn't matter you cut it to length after) rolled into a 2 mm wick with a 1.5 ohm coil with a fairly spread out wrap (1.5 mm between) on batt voltage...same great taste as gauze, wicks like crazy (can chain it as much as my throat can take), thinner vape but a significant jump in TH (probably the 1.5 coil)...may be swapping this out soon...a little too intense.

with one of the goals of modding being to get better performance than what is commercially available, I love it when this happens.

thank you all, I think you may be onto something with the unreliability of the meter in this regard

I have been using a butane torch, and quenching a minimum of 5 times, no wiping off of crud

My coils light up like a christmas tree, all at once, so maybe they're ok

Will a short fry a battery for sure?

And with this last question, I will stop derailing this thread.

Just so happens that many of the SS heavy hitters happen to be hanging out here, so I couldn't resist

All coils are nothing more than a "short". (it's just that some are shorter than others).

I think you are asking if your coil shorts somewhere in the middle. It can cause a hot spot that may not be pleasant to the taste buds.
In some cases it can get hot enough to make the juice ignite. So just test fire it a few times with and with out juice to make sure it is OK. the older it gets the less you need to worry about this.

    fair enough, that makes sense

I had the impression that a "short" would actually fry the battery

Are not 'protected batteries' protected from shorting out?
At this point in my life I have forgotten more than I now know.

Yes. that's what the protection is in there for. If the coil (load) is to much for the battery the protection circuits should shut it off. There is some good info in the forum's sticky about batteries.

A note about low ohm coils (inc. dual coils) If you are using the T.I. 04050 booster chip to get VV. a dual coil will kill the chip in less than a month.

If pulse it and your coil glows an even red from post to post you nailed it...that's an "oh ya!" moment
