    Default iPhone iPod pass trough?

    Hi all!
I know it is possible to make a pass trough to use it with iphone/ipod
The conector of an iPod has an output to 3.3 Volts
So, the question is if it worths to make a iPod passtrough
According to my calculations a 3.6 V battery on any PV gives 3.5 watts when applied to atomizer, hence producing heat. If used 3.3V battery of iPod it will be 2.94 watts, so it will produce enough heat?

I dont have an iPod device, so I will borrow one from my sister.
Since I have one usb pass trough, what I am going to do is to make a usb female output for the ipod and then conect my pass trough (also made by myself) and check how it works.
Tomorrow I will go to Steren to get the components and I will inform you my progress.
Since my passtrough has a diode to lower the voltage from 5 to 4.3 V I will have to modify my pass trough

    Saludos

P.S: if someone tried this before.. please let me know how it worked.

I have an IPod Touch battery sitting in front of me, it shows 3.7vdc, 900mAh. I can connect it to a USB Female tommarow and let you know if it works with my passthrough.

Download my Excel v13 ejuice calculator Enjoy!

Hi. You say you have the actual battery of an iPod touch, right? I asume that battery is not in the iPod working rith? The thing is I am going to try to take the power from a working iPod. I will use the dock conector and a female usb to make it work with the pass trough

I will let you know how it works when it is done
Anyways Ill be very glad to see also your results

    Saludos

Not exactly what you're looking for, but I hope this helps. I have an iPhone wall charger. It has the standard USB port and I just plug my passthrough into that. Charger of course goes in any wall outlet.

I'll be very surprised if there is any appreciable power output at the dock connector on the ipod.

    Good luck!

    Pin 18 3.3V 3.3V Power (+)
Stepped up to provide +5 VDC to USB on iPod Camera Connector. If iPod is put to sleep while Camera Connector is present, +5 VDC at this pin slowly drains back to 0 VDC.

Apple iPod and iPhone (2g, 3g) Dock Interfaces pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru

This is from the pin out diagram, enough to tell me it will not work.

After making all the project. I have my results to share

output voltage from ipod gives 3.3 V. First I tried 3.3 V from a triple voltage power source to the pass trough without the diode. It worked fine.

Then I borrowed my sisters iPod to try and when I push the switch from the pass trough, output voltage from iPod drops to 1.44 V, hence not producing any vapor at all from the atomizer. I think iPod protection doesnt allow that much of current going out from the device. If you use the battery alone it wont be a problem
    I share some pictures anyway

I did not took picture of the final version after proving my idea did not worked haha.. I will think a little more about it and see if anything can be done, but actually had fun trying.

Question? Knowing that the Iphone battery already does not last that long if you are a serious user..Why would you want to drain it. Kensington makes a specific power pack for the Iphone for serious users for battery back up. And Kensington makes a powerpack that works with the PV too. Iphones already have a battery limitation for serious users.

Why not just buy the Kensington power pack that works with the PV? That way you wont have to drain the Iphone?

Maybe I'm not understanding, but I think my cell phone is just as important as my PV. I like both to work when I want them too? I wouldn't want to drain either so I could not use them? At least not without a back up power source in hand.

iPod video or other iPods lasts longer.
This post is in the modding section if I buy kensington battery pack I wont have anything to modd :P And that wasnt the purpose at all uhm.. I like to have ideas and see if they work even if they dont. As you can see in my last post, it didnt work hehe. Also why attach it to a computer usb, maybe you want better battery and use it while you chat or work. Had same idea of hearing music while vaping haha.

And for iPhone I have made in the past LED flash.. since iPhone doesnt have any and some pictures were too dark when using the camera. There is where i got the idea to beggin with. I attached an ultrabright LED to an iPhone and, I guess it didnt use as much current as the atomizer, so it worked perfectly and did not drain the battery at all. Taking that aside for atomizer didnt work haha haha

After all you gave me a great Idea when you mentioned cell phones.. haha now I will try vaping from my nokia battery 3.7 volts 1100 mAh (this one you can access directly not like in the iPod) it may save my life when I travel or dont have a pv battery charged or a usb port or kesington battery charged :P

    Saludos!

    Great!
Another demo on how Steve Jobs has made Apple products so proprietary, they are sometimes even not compatible with themselves.

You will not get juice out of that sucker unless you rip the battery out of the case. And that would be the most expensive battery you ever used.
