LOL, then the wizardstick is the way to go, or maybe a fog machine. I gotta get to bed for real. I will be thinking about it at work tomorrow. Goodnight.

Default Too much stuff to do...

You folks have been hard aqt it. I wish I had more time to follow these threads. Here's some stuff about LEDs that may help choose resistors and such:

    Standard 3.6 volts (4.2v)
Green, blue, UV, white, Rainbow, Pink, Purple (3.2) = 60 ohm
    Yellow, red, orange (2.0) = 120 ohm

    Magnum 6 volts (7.2v)
Green, blue, UV, white, Rainbow, Pink, Purple (3.2) = 220 ohm
    Yellow, red, orange (2.0) = 270 ohm

It is slightly larger than the one Madog used but the build feels better to me and it is roomier. I will go dig up a link for you. I promised one to Jim in another thread, so I will just bite the bullet and go find it and post here for both of you.
Thanks for the tip Nic on the other flashlight. I will have to look for it next time down there.

I got the same ones from Home Depot that Jim picked up and put on on my list of one to try.

Been busy painting Mom's house, so my time limited, but I will get around to them soon.

    Multisync98,

You can use a 7805 voltage regulator from Radio Shack, which can take more than 24 volts in, and will regulate it to 5V out. Amperage stays the same.

    or

You cold also use a diode, or more than one diode. For the most part, a simple diode will drop the voltage by 0.8V, so if you used 2 on a magnum at 6V, you could end up with about 4.4V, which would be really ideal at about 1 amp.

The only thing to keep in mind that when using batteries, the voltage is not constant. I think I recall madog saying the average voltage he is getting is around 5.2V, so really there is no need to drop or regulate it anyways.

One more thing. Using a slightly higher voltage can help keep your atty clean as it can burn off some of the residue from daily use.

Hope this helps, and to be clear, these ideas are not my own - got them from this forum. Can't recall who posted, but I want to say breakfastchef or kinabaloo, but not 100% certain.

Finally got mine done. The most time consuming part was reading this thread!
I build a new pcb (from RS) like panderson suggested with 1 diode in place to reduce the volts. (Package on the IN4001 says "forward volts drop = 1.6V")
I haven't checked the actual voltage drop because I'm STILL waiting on my CR2's.

RS has a pcb package of all round ones, one is 25mm. The flash light needs a 24mm one.
    Just shaved it down some.

For the atomizer washer I used a metal piece, Actually, this elliminates the need for a ground wire to the atty because it is now grounded through the metal washer, which grounds through the flashlight body. (In my next version I plan to have ALL grounds go through the body of the flashlight)

My LED doesn't work, not sure why, maybe because I'm using the 3 standard AAA's ?

Spent to much money (and time)on this, I even bought a soldering stand with a magnifying glass on it!! Works nice though.
I suppose my future units will cost less since I now have many extra parts.
I like the rechargeable toothbrush idea, might try that.

Alright, got my CR2's...this Magnum IS awesome. LED still doesn't work but I'm not going to open it back up to figure out why.
Got some serious vapage now people!!!

EDIT: Oh, my final voltage is 6.25, guess I must've wired something wrong because that IN4001 appears to have done nothing.

I'll wait to see how long this atty lasts. It's a very used one...at least 14 days old.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet.
Home Depot in Canada has 5 packs of Everbuilt 9-LED aluminum flashlights on for $12.99
