Passthou ? Advice please
Ok I have been looking into getting a passthou for my 901 and Have seen a post about straight through passthou's burning out USB ports on laptops but I can't seem to find the post, My forum search skills are not so good. That being said could someone please offer me up some advice about this topic. Will a 5v passthou burn up my USB port? Is there a way to safely use one without having to worry about this? Any and all advice would be great
Thanx
:EDIT:
I have a new dell xps gaming laptop if this helps any.

Passthroughs *have* burned out USB ports before, yes. There's no guarantee that it will or it won't on any specific computer.
Radio shack sells a 4.5v, 1.6Ah wall wart that some folks have had good luck with. You'd have to splice a female USB cable in place of the DC cable, however.
Failing that, look for a USB wall wart that supplies at least 1000mAh (1Ah) or greater.

Often passthrough cause a warning from your computer that the power drain on the USB port is greater than normal. That may or may not affect the performce of your PT or your PC. In any event, I agree with mnealtx that it is always peferable to have a wall wart power supply as you power source for your PT. At a minimum, look for a power supply that provides 5 vdc at 1 amp or more.

Seems like it should work, although I'd prefer something 1.5A or bettery, myself. May want to keep your drags pretty short so you don't overheat it.

You can get powered usb hubs pretty cheaply now-a-days also. You dont even have to hook them to your PC as all your using is the power source.
