    Default Capacitors Question

I am curious if a capacitor could be used to output the voltage and amperage we need for powering an personal vaporizer.

I suppose ~5V and what 1.2 amps? 2amps? I am not an electronics expert, just tinkering here. My goal is to charge the capacitor and have it power the atomizer coil a few times if possible.

What capacitor specs would I need? If the capacitor would need to be of higher spec would I need a voltage regulator?

    Thinking out loud here.

    Capacitor energy calculator

I'm not familiar with the different atty resistances. I know the 901 and KR808D-1 is between 3.2 and 3.5 ohms. So full charge battery 4.2V across 3.2 ohms is 1.31A that's 5.51 watts.

1 Joule of energy is 1 watt for 1 second.

1,000,000uF capacitor with a 3.2 ohm load will last about 3 seconds.

Thanks for the info. I am guessing this will not work...???

Your thoughts are not without merrit. These supercaps are great energy storage devices and can deliver a pretty good punch of current but only for a limited time period. So the quick answer is no 1.5 Farad is not enough.

Here is an interesting article on the use of a supercap as a battery.

But... our PVs already make a use out of capacitors. How else would the LED flash? To address the question, a capacitor isn't what you're looking for to power a heating element. Just not something a capacitor's meant to be used for. You'd want something with a more steady power, a dc battery. E-cigs get a use out of a capacitor - but it's not what you'd think immediately.

Actually I was looking for info on this because I wanted to build a No Battery Mod. I was going to use a hacked servo and a collapsible hand crank to input power into the capacitor. I like the hand crank idea but I don't think its all that feasible to hand crank and vape at the same time. Hence the capacitor.

Not knowing about capacitors and electricity so forth and so on...

I am guessing it is completely possible but it would be dangerous.. the capacitor could kill you. And I am uncertain of how much hand cranking would be required to fully charge the capacitor... could take a long time to build up a decent charge for 1 hit.

Just thinking out loud, not really an important thread or anything. Sometimes I have nutty ideas.

Why not just use the crank to charge the battery?

Because batteries are big. I suppose a small button cell might work though... hmm.

Servo, cut it open attach collapsible crank to shaft. Wire up connections for charging a few small button cells.

I've seen capacitors blow the tip off a screwdriver - I'll pass on having one that close to my face.
