New person wants to play too
My husband Greg's DSE-901 came in today, and we were playing with it and some of the different flavors. He likes it ok, except for the liquid on the lips sometimes (over-fill I'm guessing). Aside from that part, I like it quite a bit myself but have been expressing my disappointment about the apparent typical lifespan of the components. His ideas on what he can do about that is catching his interest even more than the vaping. He liked the pics I pointed out from the posts here concerning various battery mods, particularly Madog's MAGNUM POWER mod.
So I gather that what he's looking to do at the moment is just to run a 901 atomizer off less expensive, higher capacity rechargeable batteries. A manual switch sounded like a very good idea as well. All in all, a basic Screwdriver type setup. He told me that the first thing he needs to know is the battery requirements. He doesn't spend much time online so I'm being sort of a go-between at the moment. Is there a resource which would have all the specifications listed or could someone please reply with that information?

The screwdriver is an e-cig made by Trog from these forums. You can get more info here: ecigscrewdriver.com
You should really learn to use the "search feature" its the button in the top right that says "Search"
Hope That Helps

I know what the Screwdriver is. That's why I used it as a comparison for the TYPE of thing my husband wants to make. What I ASKED is what the battery requirements are to run a 901 atomizer.

This thread might have some relevant information - Batteries and power - information and specs
Bastage posted details of how to do a Screwdriver mod at ecigreview apparently - E-Cig Review: The Place for Non-Biased Ecig Reviews and E-Cigarette Discounts

You might want to just bookmark (or add to favorites) the modders' forum for him so he doesn't have to navigate and work hard to find it, just click once and read. By the time he is done reading about the magnum and watching the video, he'll be out of your hair completely - unfortunately so will the checkbook.
He will be inspired to start taking apart all kinds of things and rearranging and tweaking them. I know I am. It's a new obsession for me - everywhere I go I am thinking about what I can rearrange to improve my hardware.

Thank you Kate and DaveyRoots. I'm looking it over the suggested topics now. And Nicowolf, you are entirely correct. I'd rather have hm working on a (likely) productive path than ranging in all the directions that would lead the wallet to.
I have been spending days searching various topics on the e-cigarette forum. Rather than exact requirements and specifications, most threads contain speculations on possible routes to take on a specific project. Even as the information sounds less than certain, I am not always able to determine if the person is talking about a similar enough model.
I have NO desire to risk atomizers. We're brand new to this and my husband was very recently laid off from his job of 20 years. I've yet to afford ANY backup atomizers AT ALL. If either dies before then, I will have to give up my own as he is too likely to restart analogs otherwise.

FYI Fact: Atomizers Are Not Designed For Long Term Use & Will Frequently Just Die Anyways! This is How All These E-Cig Parts are Made (Batts, Switches, Atom's, etc).
Not to discourage you or your hubby, but you always need plenty of Atomizers & Batteries On Hand Without Mods as these are all disposable products at this time.
I have completed over 25 Different Working Mods & "The Wallet" is always open to E-Cigs & Parts....
Good luck!

Not getting much help are you? I have been intensively searching this forum for such info so maybe I can help. I am sure (and I hope) the 'meister' will jump on me if I am wrong. For batteries, the atomizers in a regular e-cig use a small 3.7 V rechargeable Li-ion battery, which someone said was a 333 mAh battery. Some mods on this forum use higher-capacity 3.7 V Li-ion batteries such as a 14500 (do google) which is about the same size as a AA battery. Other mods use three AA 1.5 V batteries (total in series 4.5V, see Juicy box thread by Jaaxx). I think I am going this route as NiMH rechargeable batteries are easy to get and do not have the hazards associated with Li batteries. Other mods use straight USB power (about 5 volts) which is said to provide about 1 amp current through a cold atomizer. No one seems to be sure about the current that 3.7 - 5 volts puts through a hot atomizer. It seems to me that the operating current for the atomizer is probably between 1/3 and 1 amp althought some mods have reported using higher voltage and thus current (Magnum mod). BTW if you choose to go the NiMh route I got a 'travel charger' for these batts on clearance at Radio Shack yesterday for $1.59!
For saving your atomizer you need to check around the forum for tips on cleaning it.
Hope this helps,
missy slim
