Brand new at this and looking to do a sort of mod...

I just got my DSE601 pipe and since it has such a notoriously short life span, I want to start planning my replacement of the works in the bowl and stem right away. This is the only pv I own, or have even seen in person. (I do have a mini pipe ordered, but it could be up to a month before it gets here since I chose the cheapest shipping)

I have no clue if what I want to do is possible, but I want to try. I would have to have a complete unit, battery, atty, and cart at no more than 3in and not quite as big around as a AA battery. Smaller is fine since I can use some silicone or something to make it airtight so that the air flows through the atty rather than around it. The mouthpiece is a part of the pipe, so it need not be included in the length. Basicly, all I am looking to do is place a small auto e-cig down the neck of the pipe. I am willing to forgo the cart if needed and use it as a drip only instead. I do want something with a battery life of more than a couple of hours though.

Any thoughts, comments, ideas?

I know next to nothing about these things at this point. So even if it is, "You idiot! Stick with factory made stuff!" let me know what you think.

So... you're looking to use the pipe casing as a type of cosmetic addition around a different e-cig? Like, you'll be putting the e-cig into the pipe, and using that to vape? But I assume you are keeping the pipe for the visual appearance... right? If I'm correct, which I may not be, you are looking at getting a mini e-cig. Someone else who knows the length of these better than I may chime in and be more specific on which. I'm not, however, entirely sure if mini e-cigs tend to last 2 hours + or not.

This is my main idea since is requires no electronics work. If the battery in the 601 can be easily modded to accept a removable atty, then I would be willing to try as long as I have something else to puff on in case I fail. That would also solve much of the length and battery life issues. I have a little experience with case mods for things like mp3 players and usb memory sticks, but I never altered the electronics in any of them to do a mod.

I want to keep the pipe look and feel since that is what I am trying to replace with vaping. I love smoking my pipes so much that a stick won't sooth the psychological addiction like a pipe would.

The DSE601 is notorious for leaking back into the bowl.
So which ever atty you choose to use, make sure that the battery connector for the atty is bottom hole sealed.
If you search the modders forum I know one member has been doing some work in the
direction you are going.
I can't remember the thread or the guys name, but if you find it,

First you have to pick the atty you want to use. The stem has plenty of room. You will use the pipe battery, drill/install a small momentary push button switch, attach/glue the appropriate atty connector in the stem and you're good to go.

It has been done a few times.



The pipe batt, 18350, is a good one for decent vaping times.

So if I can find an atty that will fit down the throat of the pipe and hook it up to the current battery system, I might could keep the current stem/mouthpiece and keep the same look as the original? I want it to look as much the same from the outside as possible, especially the bent stem. That is why I had the 3" limit.

I recently found out that the "tube" on the curved tip off a pipe (a real tobacco pipe, it was one that I had bought a long time ago and it was a corn cob pipe) wee anyways that curved tip fits almost perfectly into a 510 and 901 atomizer. I still use it sometimes because I like the "biting on it" feel while vaping.
