At risk of invoking a forum-wide "DUH!" on my behalf,

...when you put it back together, you get the best vapor when the metal "U" shaped part of the atomizer touches and pushes in a bit on the juice wick material.

Mine worked without OK at about a centimeter gap but the taste was more burnt the further out.
